why do we hate FSU?

Since we already have an "Why we hate Shaq" thread, let's have one for FSU (No offense, FSU fans ).

I never liked FSU, I was always rooting for Miami or UF (when they were good )

But I'm not sure where this dislike comes from, I hear people say that FSU is a bunch of cheaters. I'm not sure what they did. Can somebody clarify?

BTW, I did a search, and of course FSU is only three letters.

they overachieve in a weak conference
they play the bad boy role alot of times, like miami did in the 80s
they have been repeatedly caught cheating
they are always ranked higher then they deserve to start the season..
success breads contempt
they are an easy target
papa bowden gets way too smug with his success

right, right, did they commit a crime or something?

as for the cheating, what kind?!! Academic? On the field? Cheated on the recruiting?

they have been known for recruiting 'questionable' players that have criminal records.

they have been busted breaking ncaa regulations on many occasions.. taking tests for players, getting free tennis shoes from boosters at the malls, accepting all types of 'gifts', etc.. yes, they have been busted in the past

some teams get away with this sutff easier then other teams..
fsu and bama are on that list

I don't hate them. I kind of like them...but then again, I like all the Florida teams.

FSU is my least favorite of the 3, though. I really liked Peter Warrick when he was in college (if not for his stupid free shopping fiasco, he might have won the Heisman). Too bad he's in the NFL wasteland known as Cincinnati.

I use to hate them because they were good....now that I'm a student there, I don't have to worry about that anymore!

Don't forget their QB policy. They like to take cheap hits on a good QB early and risk the Roughing penalty if it knocks him out of the game. They successfully injured Joe Hamilton 3 consecutive years on late hits and knocked him out of the game.

Also, I'm sure some people don't like Bowden, because he's a figurehead instead of a coach. For years, people assumed his teams were good because of his staff, and when he puts the headset on for big games, he makes some real boneheaded play calls. Now that his assistants have moved on and are having great success, it reinforces that belief.

Perhaps people don't like that they're in the ACC, a conference that aside from Clem(p)son, takes pride in academics. One of these things is not like the other.

Those are, of course, if you don't mind the dirty recruiting or the Dallas Cowboys-esque criminal record level of their starters, or the academic violations, or the "benefits" (read cars, clothing) for good players, etc.

I guess maybe those are some reasons.

Q: why do we hate FSU?

A: Because Bowden compares football teams to serial killers?

After Saturday's game, he made reference to the sniper shooting.

After the ND loss. I forget what he said, but it was like "They're serial killers, I tell ya. Dadgummit, I says, I says, I says ... they're serial killers."

http://espn.go.com/ncf/news/2002/1026/1451584.html

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State coach Bobby Bowden issued a written apology Saturday for a postgame analogy comparing Notre Dame to ''serial killers'' for the way they keep beating opponents.

Bowden was praising Notre Dame (8-0) for creating decisive turnovers in most of its victories this season. The Irish took advantage of four Florida State turnovers in their 34-24 victory Saturday.

''They work on it, they force them,'' Bowden said during his news conference after the game. ''That's the way they beat everybody.

''So, just count us in the club. We're in a club. They're serial killers. They kill everybody the same way. No change.''

Moments later, university officials distributed a brief statement with Bowden's apology.

''I used an analogy I should not have said, especially in the wake of recent events,'' Bowden said. ''I certainly meant no disrespect.''

Maryland authorities on Friday charged John Allen Muhammad, 41, and teenager John Lee Malvo, with multiple counts of first-degree murder in the sniper shootings that terrorized the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area in recent weeks. Ten people were killed and three others injured during the shooting spree.

Bowden took some criticism earlier in the season in radio talk shows and from some newspaper columnists who thought his choice of the ''Let's Roll'' slogan trivialized the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on Washington and New York. Bowden called the criticism ''stupid.''

Bowden took the motto from Todd Beamer, one of the passengers aboard United Flight 93, which crashed in a Pennsylvania field on Sept. 11 after a group of passengers tried to take control of the plane from terrorists. Officials believe the hijackers intended to crash the plane into the White House or Capitol.

The foundation named after Beamer said it was honored by Bowden's decision to adopt the motto for its season.

I missed that part, why would he say that? What, is he trying to embarrass FSU even more? What a dope.

edit: Ah, thanks for the link.

as a miami fan.. you should be getting more warmed up to be upset at the bcs

from the sound of it.. if games go as expected, and the teams that are expected to be undefeated, stay that way.. miami is on pace to get screwed out of a fiesta bowl opportunity

I don't expect that to happen, but I think college football fans should pray for it. While many heads would remain firmly entrenched within asses, some would be removed, and the BCS' days would be numbered.

But the renewal of the BCS is already in jeopardy. A debacle or two and things may change when the time comes. There are significant monetary benefits to changing the system if things are done right. If things go wrong this year, TPTB will be more open to hearing them.
