Fantasy Baseball Keeper League Question

OK, so I can only keep 3 players from this team for a new keeper league.

Before going further, each team had 3 players who COULDN'T be protected & would go back into the draft for next year. Mine were Randy Johnson, Magglio Ordenez & Brian Giles.

So I can keep any 3 of the following:
Ben Davis
Mo Vaughn
Ray Durham
Troy Glaus
Jimmy Rollins
Mark McLemore
Brad Fullmer
Bengie Molina
Bobby Higginson
Steve Cox

Jeff Weaver
Joel Pineiro
Terry Adams
Bartolo Colon
Tony Armas Jr
Brad Penny
Shane Reynolds
Bruce Chen

I'm leaning towards protecting Colon, Glaus & Durham, but I'm looking for opinions. It's a regular rotiss, 5x5 league. We're talking about removing AVG & replacing it with OPS or OBP for next year, but it's a normal league outside of that. Any suggestions?

I think I'd go Colon, Glaus and Rollins.

What he said. Durham is extremely replaceable.

Agreed on Durham.

But why would you pick Pineiro over Rollins? Both were 3 and 4 on my list, so it's close. Just wondering your thoughts...

Guess I am just not that high on Rollins. I saw regression from him. I also dont value stolen bases that much. You can usually pick someone up to at least compete in that category, someone such as Dave Roberts this past season. On the other hand Pineiro is a solid 3.5 category performer. He will be amongst the leaders in WHIP & ERA while also doing well in K's. I am hoping that they will put him in the rotation from day one this upcoming year which will also greatly help his wins. To me he is just much more valuable especially going forward. I have him even with Colon out of this list.

No concern that he's young, and young pitchers are always risky? That was why I would be hesitant.

But I've never done a keeper league, so I don't know how "risk" factors into the question...

He's young, but Lou has also taken good care of Pineiro the last 2 years and hasn't made him throw too many innings.

Yeah that is a concern always, but I wouldnt have too much worry about Pineiro. His innings have not been sky high and he has three solid years under his belt. To me he is actually a safer bet than Colon, who has thrown an amzing amount of innings with very high pitch counts. I guess its just a basic risk/benefit analysis. Rollins doesnt have the upside that Pineiro has, imho, even though his risk is probably less. I also think Rollins numbers will be more easily replaceable in the middle of a draft than Pineiro's in the middle of a draft.

You have to protect Colon. I would go Glaus, Pineiro and Colon. Look to trade Rollins.
