Will Emmitt break the record this week?

http://msn.espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/1022/1449505.html

Smith needs 93 yards to break Walter Payton's career rushing record, and he's going for it Sunday when Dallas faces the league's worst defense against the run. The Seahawks rank last in the NFL, allowing 189.5 yards rushing a game.

"I'm sure they're looking at film and going, 'This is the week,''' Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said.
I hate to see payton's record fall.. but it was bound to happen sooner or later and emmitt has had the longevity to do it.

if Im not mistaken.. bettis and ricky watters are about 5000 yards away from the record..
marshall faulk and curtis martin aroud about 6000 yards away from the record..

but I guess it will depend on where emmitt stops

I would venture to guess that he probably will not do so... well, unless the coach puts that as the priority in the game and runs him until he breaks it. The Seahawks are weak against the run, but Emmit hasn't got 93 yards in a game all year either and the Boys O is weak all around. If it happens "naturally", then I would expect to see it happen in the following game.

I don't think so. If he were playing in Dallas, I would say yes, since he and Jerry Jones would want to break the record at home and I think he would get more opportunities.

But I don't think the Boys are going to change their gameplan in Seattle just so Emmitt can break the record there.

Against Seattle? Hell, he'll probably break it, start a new run, and break the record again....all in the same game!

He'll need 30 carries to get 93 yds, which I think might actually happen. They are playing in Dallas (and are on the road next week) so I think they will go out of their way to get him the record at home.

If he was playing my Redskins, I'd say he would easily do it (he always runs well on them).

my guess is 24 carries 87 yards, and he gets it on the first possession in week 9.

I think he'll break it next week, not this week. I don't know why I feel that way, I just do.

Of course, this would all be moot if Mr. Sanders was still playing...

At his current 4.2 yards a carry he'll need around 23 carries...With a new QB they'll be running a lot....

I'd say Dallas should not give him more carries to break the record but they should be giving him 5-6 more per week already.

Seattle should load up on the running game because of the record and because of a new QB.

If I had to put down money I'd say no but who's to say.

GO EMMITT!!!

(what ever gets the Dallas game on is all good)

just to point out.. yes, emmitt has averaged 4.2 yards per carry so far?
but he has only had 12 or 13 carries a game.. right?

if dallas did decide to give him extra carries and try to allow him a chance for the record.. wouldnt you also figure that seattle would key in on him more and his average would go down some.. so he would need more then 23-25 carries?

so far this season.. teams havent had to stop the run, because the boys havent been able to run (or pass).. but if it was obvious they were going to run, you would think a defense would lower his average a little.. even if its just seattle

I totally agree.

Seattle would be stu-pid not to key on the run.

Nope, I don't think this is the week. No extra insight from me, I just don't think he'll get the carries.

Please, just let him break the record so he'll retire.

He's still producing decent numbers (and on a not so good team), why do you think he should retire???

he still trails rice for the yards from scrimmage record.. but I think rice may outlast emmitt

i think emmitt could still be productive, but that dallas line is terrible.. and I really dont see him going anywhere else.

Cowboy fans care but you can't really expect everyone to. Heck, I couldn't give a rat's ass about Bonds homerun chase last year. To tell you the truth I'm much more excited about a pretty meaningless Seattle/Dallas football game than the World Series. I probably won't watch a single inning......

well.. there actually was quite a bit of excitement around bond's record and the world series.. despite your feelings

it doesnt seem like anyone at all cares about emmitt going for this record.. maybe its because everyone loved payton so much.. or because emmitt is doing this after sliding so far downhill, after his great early years.
