fantasy NBA- who are your top picks?

i've set up a rotisserie league with some buddies (9 of us). we're only having 8 person rosters with a 6 person rotation (5 positions + utility), and no spot for injured list. we're hopefully going to promote more frequent trades and pick-ups this way.

so who do you think i should try to get? it's gonna be a tough choice with such a small roster size. i'm thinking tim duncan's gotta be my first pick. then ben wallace. blocks is a category that most people don't pay attention to. if i can get one or both of them, i can pretty much seal up that category. they're good for rebounds and FG% too. then i'm thinking someone versatile like paul pierce or T mac, since they can both play either guard or forward. this allows for some flexibility in the rest of my line-up.
it's gonna be auto-draft, so i gotta choose my rankings carefully or i could get screwed.

anyhow, here's what i'm hoping to reasonably obtain, though it all depends on who everyone else is choosing...

Tim Duncan,
Ben Wallace,
Dirk Nowitski
Elton Brand,
Chris Webber
Shawn Marion
Ray Allen
Andre Miller

Going heavy upfront because the roster list is short, the big guys get injured more, and there are lots of good guards out there if I need to start switching up mid-season.

Dude, a lot of us here are plaing in DVDTalk leagues, so you may not get much feedback - and what you do get may be "strategically misleading".

That said, I am ranking Kelvin Cato just slightly above Shaquille O'Neal. He and Nazr Mohammed will dominate fantasy center production this year!!!

Good Luck!!!!

heh, actually, i'm considering ranking Yao up there just in case my center picks fall through. he's good enough that i think he can contribute fantasy value if i can't get any other "name-brand" centers.

anyhow, i figured some people might be done with drafting and would want to post their ranks...

i doubt that you'd get even half of those guys since all of them are pretty good fantasy commodities. but if you do, that's a darn good team.

Chicago is shopping Rose around since he and Jay Williams don't get along. Once again I say, Jerry Krause is a moron.

I would like to get him too, but he's going to be a first round pick. Between him and Tim Duncan, I think Duncan's the better choice. If you don't get a top ranked center in the first round, you're screwed. Not enough of them to go around. I want Ben Wallace too, so I can lock up the blocks category. Hardly anyone ever aims for blocks.

i dunno. the roster list is small (8) and there's only 8-9 of us. i could do pretty damn well depending on where i fall on the draft order.

I would still assume that the majority of those guys except for maybe ben wallace and ray allen (because of injury concerns) would probably go in the top 30 picks at least. with your draft, that's within the first 3 or 4 rounds. i mean, you are hoping for arguably the top 5 power forwards in fantasy basketball. i think that's asking for a lot.

in addition, you've gone heavy on the rebounds, blocks and fg percentage but what about assists. as good as andre miller is, he can't carry a fantasy basketball team alone even assuming that you get all of those power forwards. i think you need another shooting guard/small forward who garners assists or maybe just another point guard.

Duncan is a very, very solid pick for number 1 overall. However, Dirk should go top 5 in a draft, especially on where he's center-eligible (such as Yahoo!). Webber could easily be a first round pick too.

Marion, Brand, Allen & Miller should be gone in the second round, 3rd at the latest.

And if Wallace drops past the 4th round, RUN to grab him.

I just don't see how you could get all these players in a draft.

Oh, forgot to randomize the draft order just so you could get the #1 pick, eh?

I would feel uncomfortable if I got the first pick in a draft where I was commissioner, but I guess there is a 10% chance of that happening in my league too. (I can only hope!)

Any guilt I had, though, would be mitigated by the fact that Brent Barry was my #2 pick.....

Good Luck!!

I put the draft order in order of signup. Early bird gets the worm!

Although, it's always been up in the air whether the #1 pick is really an advantage, given that their next pick is #20.

Is it better to have #1 & #20? Or #5 & #16? Or #10 & 11?

Off topic - how long did it take from the time you set the auto-draft status to ready before the rosters were populated?

Armstrong, Darrell (PG-Orl)
Pierce, Paul (GF-Bos)
Terry, Jason (SG-Atl)
Lewis, Rashard (GF-Sea)
Kirilenko, Andrei (SF-Uta)
Camby, Marcus (FC-Den)
Thomas, Kurt (FC-NY)
Smith, Joe (PF-Min)
Van Exel, Nick (PG-Dal)
McInnis, Jeff (PG-Por)
Atkins, Chucky (PG-Det)
Anderson, Derek (SG-Por)
Best, Travis (PG-Mia)

I will quickly dump everyone on the Blazers. They split time far to much to be fantasy players. Anyone want McInnis? Autodraft decided that Centers were a luxury for me.

So far, I like Paul Pierce and the rest I am not sold on.

I'll trade you Brent Barry for your entire worthless lineup (minus Paul Pierce)
