showalter to manage rangers

according to cnnsi.com who cites the dallas morningn news

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/bas...alter_rangers/

DALLAS (Ticker) - Buck Showalter, one of the top candidates in this month's managerial sweepstakes, apparently has found a home with the Texas Rangers.

The Dallas Morning News reported Friday that Showalter has agreed to a four-year contract to manage the Rangers and that the formal announcement will be made on Friday afternoon.

Showalter took both the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks to the playoffs and both clubs won the World Series the year after his departure.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Showalter was the Rangers' first choice and that the team chose to make an immediate push for him rather than wait for other competitors such as the Chicago Cubs or New York Mets to make their bids.

The 46-year-old Showalter has a 563-504 record in six seasons as a major league manager. He has been an analyst for ESPN since being fired by the Diamondbacks after the 2000 season.

Showalter would replace Jerry Narron, who did not survive a second straight last-place finish. Narron was fired two days after the Rangers finished a disappointing 72-90 campaign.

Known as a disciplinarian who likes to be involved in all facets of the organization, Showalter would inherit a team that scores plenty of runs with sluggers Alex Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro, but has one of the league's worst pitching staffs.

but they will suck more than they did. Showalter was a terrible manager, and the players here in AZ hated him. He has all these retarded policies like dressing up for getaway day and no talking to opposing players before the game. Getting rid of him was the best thing the Dbacks ever did.

Rangers fans already can't wait for him to be fired...

1995: Showalter fired as Yanks manager 1996: Yanks win WS
2000: Showalter fired as D-Backs manger 2001: D-Backs win WS

Uh - good thing they don't play for the Yankees - they have more rules than anybody. Buck gave you the 'Backs just like he did for the Yankees for Torre.

Really? What were his accomplishments for both teams?

Showalter was/is/will continue to be a terrible manager. The D-Backs won a WS because of some smart trades (Schilling, Gonzalez) and some smart free agent siginings (Johnson).

Manger of the Year award. Took a bad Yankees team and raised them to actually get back to first. Was a huge part of building the D'Backs and the farm system. In only 2 years they won the West title. Fastest in league history. Yeah - he sucks.

Showalter is overrated. He had practically the same 2001 D-Backs that in 2000 and he didn't take them to the playoffs...

Then along comes a manager named Bob "Dofus" Brenly who not only takes his team to the playoffs, but winning the World Series. Brenly did every move wrong in the WS and still ended up winning.... "Leys put BK in!"

Showalter holds his team back.

I just still don't know enough about this guy, but I'm still holdng out that Bobby V. will be the Rangers manager before the end of the next baseball season.

I actually like Bobby V. It would be nice to see him go back to the Rangers - he just couldn't win the Series with the Mets but he did get them there though.
