My Dallas Stars started off against the hated Avalanche and tied them.

Any thoughts on the new season?

I think Dallas can make it to the conference finals, but will lose there.

I'm excited. I had friends come over and watch the games last night

So far from what I saw I liked it. The periods flew by and it was very high tempo. Lots of power plays. I like the 18 second face off rule ::

The new rules are great.

Except for the netting. I know what happened last year was a tradgedy, but I can not stand the netting for replays and other shots, I wonder how it will be when I go to a game.

I don't mean to sound cold about what happened, I just think the netting is not needed, what happened last year was a freak accident.

I can't get excited because the regular season is pointless. The rules are changed for the postseason anyway, so why watch until then?

it's still baseball playoff time, then it's football season, and maybe after the Super Bowl I will watch hockey...actually no I won't because college basketball will be on, so after March Madness and my favorite month of the year I will be all about hockey...

Go Blues! (too bad they didn't do a damn thing in the offseason and they sent all of their young exciting guys back down to the minors after camp, but I think the way this season is going they will be back soon...I am afraid their playoff streak might come to an end this year).

and the Eastern Conference still sucks.

Exactly. My interest goes up a little after the Super Bowl. Then it really goes up after college hoops are finished (which is about the same time the NHL playoffs start).

I watched last night's game -- damn, the Rangers looked good (unfortunately).

As far as the netting goes, I think that you notice it about as much as you do the netting if you sit behind home plate. If you stare at the netting, obviously you're going to see it, but if you pay attention to the action, you'll never notice it. Heck, even if you stare at your windshield when driving, you'll see it.

Safety for my $7 beer and possible nutshot while watching a game =

I went to a preseason game and didn't notice the netting until the third period.

i'm excited about the hawks this season but the offense took another blow. fluery indefinite suspension is a major loss. its great to see the guy wanting to get his life together and its even better that the entire team is supporting him but its a major loss to the lineup. daze is already out after having back surgery and probert is out nursing a groin injury. some of the guys are really gonna have to step up early in the season. i'll be glued to the set for the opener against columbus tonight. sutter said last years start (12-4-3-0) wasnt good enough so we'll see what happens.

even if they dont do all that well i can always count on us OWNING detoilet at the joe .

Who won the Stanley Cup last year?
Did Chi-Town make it out of the first round?

I'm your typical Bay Area hockey fan. I won't watch the Sharks until the playoffs.

Go Sharks!

I don't get to watch a lot of hockey during the regular season which is a bummer. I love hockey.

That reminds me, I need to go buy NHL 2003...

I am hoping the Avs can go all the way this year.

Hope the Red Wings choke hard, most of their star players are too old and need to retire anyway. I have not kept up with Dallas this year but hopefully they will suck and I wont have to think about them either.

I'm a hawks fan so i hope they choke probably more than most people but your statement about the players being too old and needing to retire.........the same was said about the oakland raiders before the season started.
