Big day for Group F, pretty weak for Group B. I guess Paraguay has that outside shot with a big win and a big loss from South Africa. Go Argentina! Go England! Go South Africa! Go Home (for the final game)!

England advances! Argentina's out!

OH GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

Don't know if any other English fans got alittle nervous after that PK rebound by Argentina but I got alittle sweaty especially seeing how determined Arg. was not to got elimanted in the round robin.

WHEW!!! On to the next round.

Thought England's D could use a wee bit of improvement for the round of sixteen. Got very nervous at the speed comparsion of England and Nigeria.

Oh well. Its okay now

Okay - so SPain and S. Africa advance to next round - I'm going to bed. Even if it ends up being Spain and Paraguay, I don't care. Bed.

The ref. for the Sweden/Argentina match should be shot.

That rebound goal by Crespo for the Argies should not have stood. He was half way across the penalty area before the kick was taken.

Fortunately it made little difference.
I was hoping that Argentina would go through but they played themselves out of the tournament. England and Nigeria was a bore. England still needs to work on getting its offense together.

England was playing to not screw up in the second half... playing for the tie. They created some good chances in the first half.

And.... Argentina: . They deserve this more than any other team I know.

The ref/linesman should have blown the play dead ; I agree the refs have been making some pretty bad calls. So much for the cup favorites (France & Argentina)

Well it's
England vs. Denmark
Sweden vs Senegal

and most likely-

Spain* vs. Ireland
Brazil* vs Russia
Germany* vs RSA
Italy* vs Portugal
Japan* vs CRC
US* vs Mex

*Winner of the group

I think Brazil, Germany should coast into the quarters. US hopefully will spank Poland; a win will place US against Mexico.

Beckham actually said afterwards he was happy with the way things turned out playing Denmark. he emphasized the fact it was a night game instead of the day game they would have got against Senegal if they had won

It looks pretty unlikely that both Italy and Mexico will survive.

Croatia are a banker to beat Ecuador (probably by 2 or more goals), so if Mexico lose to Italy they will most likelt go out.

But will Italy come good at last? maybe not.

Certainly the USA look good to win group D since they beat Portugal before they woke up. Pity South Korea.

Italy wont beat Mexico.
This is pretty irrelevant to England's chances because Italy/Mexico are in the other half of the draw and they couldn't meet England until the final.

The big problem in England's half of the draw is Brazil, who would be the opponent after Denmark (assuming Brazil get that far of course:-)

I tend to agree that Italy / Mexico will not be easy for Italy, though. Mexico will not want to throw away the 6 point they have. I'd say a draw is likely.

Did anybody else think Sweden almost shot themselves in the foot? I was getting a little irritated at them, sloppy penalities in the box and the like. They should consider themselves lucky. But, Im glad that both they and England made it.

It was point a) and point b) I know the 2 are unrelated.

Either way Italy is going home tomorrow.

Take a look at the stats from the game:

Shots: Sweden-5 Arg-14
Shots On Goal: Sweden-3 Arg- 4
Possession: Sweden 34% Arg 66%

Sweden pulled out a tough one!
