Do you think you might suffer from an addiction?
How many hours do you play a day?
Does it get in the way of work? Do you play video games while at work?
Do you think about video games during sex?

Lets see, I got UT for the Dreamcast on tuesday. Wednesday I had an important meeting that included the President of the bank I work for. I stayed up til at least 5:30 playing. No sleep, no food, didn't even notice.
Last night my girlfriend says something to me (by the time she got home from work I was already playing) all I hear is "blah, blah, blah, something-something". Later she comes back in the room and says "Have you moved the entire time I was gone?".
I thought "You were gone?".

LOL there have been many times that i have been late for work cause of an RPG, you get to those points in the story where you can't save and you can't shut off either
. I remember when Chrono Chross came out i had the two days off of work and it's literally all i did, i had like 20 hours after the second day!
and yeah, the girlfriend gets upset with me sometimes, "stop playing that game and talk to me!"

There is a guy at the UGO Sega forums that lost at least two jobs from not wanting to turn it off and go to work. I remember when MvC2 came out he posted a couple days later that he got fired again! The title of the thread was "MvC2 Got Me Fired!!!".
At least there are people out there worse than me!

I used to play games all the time, now I'm lucky if I play them once a week. I just don't have time with work and school. I got several games I'm going to try to catch up on this summer when I won't have class to worry about.

I, too, used to be an "addict", but it didn't interfere with my school. I remember when FF3 and FF7 came out, I beat them both in 2 days each. That's a bit over 10 hours each. I can remember playing SimCity just after dinner, then realizing that the SUN WAS COMING UP!
Nowadays, if I get a break, I will play through a game (last one was Skies of Arcadia), but it took about 3 weeks to do it. In my hayday, I woulda had it done in about 2 days. I still get the games I want to play, it just takes me longer now to get to them. On my "to do" list:
Conker's Bad Fur day (I just beat the poo-pile)
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy IX
Vandal Hearts
Lunar 2
Legend of Mana
Final Fantasy XIII (I keep trying to play this game, but I HATE it!)
Shenmue
Grandia II
Notice they are all non-"quickie" games like Megaman X5 or any fighting game. Those I will whittle at a bit at a time, but the longer games (RPG's mostly), I like to be able to "get in to" while playing. Ever taken a few month break between RPG playing? I usually forget where I was supposed to be going and doing in the game, which makes it REALLY annoying. That is all.

I play games a LOT, maybe seven hours a day or so. Granted, I do other things at the same time - eat, watch TV, exercise on a treadmill. But, if I have other things to do, I simply don't play. Especially if I'm visiting the folks and they don't have a game system. And therein is my reason for not considering myself addicted: no withdrawl symptoms.

I too don't really understand an addiction to the point where it affects real life--i.e., your job, your relationships with others, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love videogames and I've played them for over 20 years now, but I've always put them in proper perspective. I'd think if you're missing work or it's eating away at a relationship, you need to get some help. As I've gotten older, life events have just naturally required more time, so I've been able to "wean" myself away from the time I used to spend playing games. Having a wife, mortgage, and a 10-month old son will put more than enough time demands on a person; video games have to take a back seat. But, whereas I sometimes used to just play video games out of boredom or to kill time, I play them now primarily as a stress reliever. It's "my time", and it's a great way to relieve stress after a hard day at work, dealing with your screaming baby, etc.
Just my $.02...

I use to waste my life into the game system. Games like Final Fantasy 7, Tony Hawk, Tetris, Kirby's Dreamcourse, and among others caused me to lose sleep to play these games. Then I played Final Fantasy 8 and I haven't beat an epic game since trying to play this piece of crap. I realized that all that I was seeing were just colors on a screen so it didn't really matter what any of it looks like so I busted out my Super Nintendo and I am playing all of my old school favorites on it.

I got real addicted to every single FF game that I've played. Others include SF 2, SF 2 Turbo, SF Alpha 3, Tekken 3, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Kart 64, Zelda, Zelda 3, Zelda 64, Zombies Ate My Neighbors...I'm over it now though.
