Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

Whats your favorite band you can’t name a member of?

Think mine would be Muse, Have two of their albums. Seen them live. Wouldn’t recognize a member if they ran into me and no clue what their names are.

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

Too many to list.

Basically any band whose members have very non-english sounding/spelled names. For example, such as ABBA, Within Temptation, Delain, etc ...

Nowadays I don't listen to many newer american/british bands.

Oddly enough, many of these non-american / non-british bands I've been listening to for many years, actually all sing in English. Even when they play at large festivals/venues and/or do interviews, they will frequently speak in English.

Serious answer (and it's a good question), after some consideration : Arcade Fire.

ABBA is a good answer, morriscroy .

I'm like that for many bands who are outside my era but whom I enjoy. ABBA, America, The Animals, etc.

I'd add Tycho. It's one guy. He's amazing. Can't remember his name.

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

This is an really interesting question.
Of bands I like but haven't spent money on there are a lot...most after the 2000s but the first would probably be Kasabian. I know they threw their lead singer out after a domestic assault but don't know his name. I couldn't pick any of them out of a lineup.
If I've bought an album and/or seen them live I'm pretty sure I could at least name one member after I did a quick look at my library. That pool shrinks for recognizing them in real life but I think I can do 50-60% unless it's like Teddybears and they hide their identify.

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

Three relatively obscure 80s bands that I have in my album collection:

A Drop In The Gray
Clan Of Xymox
Scudocrow

Great albums but I wouldn't be able to name a member of these bands off the top of my head if you paid me to ...

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

Actually, a lot of the 70s power pop bands I like so much and have several albums by.

Shoes
20/20
Let's Active
The Rubinoos
The Producers
Off Broadway
Pezband

I mean, I've looked at the backs of the records and seen the names, but I'll be damned if I can recall any off the top of my head.

I don't know anybody in Supertramp and loved them back in the early 80s. Asia as well.
Feels like I should know who the two guys in Pet Shop Boys were, but I don't.

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

I can't think of any bands that I really like that I don't know any members. However, there are some (like Kansas, Foreigner, Chicago, etc..) that I don't know if any of the members are still in the bands.

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

I'm struggling to think of a band that's a favorite of mine where I cannot name even a single member. I'm sure there is at least a couple, but I'm drawing a complete blank.

You don't know Lou Gramm or Peter Cetera?

I only know Neil Tennant was in Pet Shop Boys from the SNL Napster Trial sketch.

Neil Tennant: What have I, what have I, what have I done to deserve this?
Judge: Mr Tennant, please stop singing your songs
Neil Tennant: No, I'm asking you. What have I done to deserve this?

Of course I know them, but I don't know if they are still in their respective bands. Peter left Chicago for his solo career a long time ago, I don't know if they ever did any reunions.

I was thinking more Mick Jones for Foreigner, I don't know if he is still with them. Lou isn't really a full touring member, I think he's done some one-off songs with them.

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

I assume the question was if you could name, off the top of your head, any official member of a given band at any time. Like if you could at least name Michael McDonald, that would rule out The Doobie Brothers.

Foreigner is a Ship of Theseus band - none of the orginal members are still touring with them. I just saw them - they're basically a tribute band but some of the members now have played with Jones and Graham in the past. Not sure about Chicago - might be the same way.

I never heard that reference before and had to Google it.

I always thought of comic juggler Michael Davis (sorry, another SNL reference) when he was juggling an axe. "This axe once belonged to George Washington. Except I had to replace the handle. Then a few years later, I replaced the head too. But it occupies the same space"

At first I couldn't think of any. I thought Spooky Tooth. Nope, Gary Wright is in Spooky Tooth. I thought Quicksilver Messenger Service. Nope, Gino Vannelli was in Quicksilver. Finally thought of two.
Ozark Mountain Daredevils and Little Feat. I have all their 70s albums but can't name a member. I do know their was a main guy in Little Feat who died.

I wonder if there's any band that is named "Ship of Theseus" or "Theseus' Ship."

Re: Favorite Band You Cant Name a Member Of

There are a boatload of bands I like a lot but don't know the names of any members. As far as one I really like and have seen multiple times, The Casualties is the first one that popped into mind. I knew the previous singer's name, Jorge, no idea on the new one.

I think Lynyrd Skynyrd is in that same... ship. The member who has been with them the longest is their guitar player who only joined on their fifth album.

And Quiet Riot, at various points, has the drummer or bassist from their third album as their longest-running member. Sort of makes me wonder how, from a legal standpoint, that even works. With Skynyrd, the original singer's brother is basically running the band, but Quiet Riot seems to bounce around between session musicians and guys who played on their third-through-fifth 80s albums like Sarzo and Banali.

I have an example of the opposite. You know a name but not the band.
Klaus Voormann.
How do I know that name?
Had to look it up. He played on several Beatles solo and Nilsson albums. Must be in my brain from reading the back of album covers 50 years ago.

Back in 1979-80 I had the first two Blackfoot albums and listened to them a lot. Don't know any of their names. Can't think of the names of guys in 38 Special but might if I heard them. I think one of the main guys is named Don something.

I always thought Collective Soul has some great, complete albums (especially the first two), but I couldn't tell you the name of a band member or possibly even give a song title off them. But I could sing the lyrics to ever song once it is playing.
