World War II WWII with Tom Hanks 20 Hours History Channel Series Memorial Day 5/25/2026

What took so long?

Time for the young people to learn if they have not already the lessons from the past.

A must see though I prefer my World War II docs and movie watching when it is cloudy and overcast and rain if possible just like the conditions during the war.

For 80 years, World War II has remained the most devastating and defining conflict in human history. Coming in May 2026, The HISTORY Channel's World War II with Tom Hanks is a landmark documentary event that reexamines the war through the lens of a new century. Told over 20 hours and guided by Hanks, whose lifelong passion for this history has shaped some of the most profound screen portrayals of the era, the series captures the full arc of the war—from the rise of fascism in Europe to the fall of Berlin, from Pearl Harbor to Hiroshima, and the uneasy peace that follows.

Each episode uncovers new dimensions of the conflict: the decisions that shaped the battlefield, the unseen networks that sustained the war effort, and the aftershocks that still shape our world today. World War II with Tom Hanks is the definitive retelling of that story for a new generation: a sweeping, deeply human portrait of how the modern world was forged in the fires of global war.

The National WWII Museum was proud to support HISTORY's work on this series through historical research, educational outreach, and archival footage, as well as on-site interviews with WWII veterans that will be featured as part of the network’s “Save Our History” initiative.
