I would be interested in the 3-disc sets if the bonus discs were all live shit. I have no interest in riffs, demos and cutting room floor minutiae.

I'll pass, not a big fan of the Load/Reload era, but I'm happy to see this because the next box set on deck should be Garage Inc., which I do want. After that, the only other set I'd want would be the No Life 'Till Leather box, which should have came out years ago, but they need to settle everything with Mustaine first. Fingers crossed on that one, I'd love to buy it!

Re: METALLICA: ReLoad (Remastered) Deluxe Box Set - June 26, 2026

I think they probably should have combined Load and ReLoad into a single boxed set. (Like GnR's Use Your Illusion.)

I'm just, like, thirteen CDs worth of demos, rough mixes, and live concerts just seems like overkill. Does anyone even listen to all of this stuff? I just don't have much interest in live Metallica albums from the mid-90s on... the songs aren't as good as their 80s material, and they reached a point where their performances tend to be very workmanlike and one concert is going to sound like any other. (See, also, Iron Maiden.) As far as the Load/ReLoad era goes, the only live shows I'd have any interest in listening to would when they do something different like the acoustic Bridge School or something that has an interesting pedigree like Lollapalooza.

Will they do a boxed set for Garage, Inc? I'm not really sure what they would put on it to bloat it out. I seem to recall that they did a tour to support the album, so there's probably some more live shows they could include. Since the album is composed entirely of cover songs, most done quick-n-dirty, there probably aren't a lot of demos and stuff like for their other albums. They'll probably include facsimiles of Creeping Death (Garage Days Revisited) and Garage Days Re-Revisited (the $5.98 EP) and maybe some of the singles that had B-sides included on G,I.

I'm sure they'll probably do a boxed set for St. Anger, though I don't know how many people would want it.

And what could include in a No Life Til Leather boxed set? They were basically nothing back then, and I don't think there would be much to include outside of some badly recorded bootleg live stuff. It would be cool to have an LP of No Life Til Leather, maybe with a picture book and liner notes, but I just don't see getting a boxed set out of it. It could have been a nice addition to the Kill'em All box, though.

Re: METALLICA: ReLoad (Remastered) Deluxe Box Set - June 26, 2026

I'm sure that a Leather box set would be smaller (just like the KEA set had a lot less CDs and DVDs than future sets), but there should be enough for at least some live shows (including on video), rehearsals/demos, interviews, a sweet hardcover book, etc. The KEA set had zero material featuring Mustaine performances, so even back then such a set was planned (pending approval from all parties) as they were holding stuff back. I think it was originally planned as the first release, but because of rights issues, they started with the KEA box instead.

If I recall, when the box set program was originally announced, Garage Inc. was included. Sure, the Garage Days Re-Revisited EP and the Creeping Death 12" have already been released, but notably, the Ride the Lightning box set did not include Am I Evil? and Blitzkrieg on CD, only on the Creeping Death picture disc, so I think there was a reason for that. There should be enough demos and live performances, it won't be a sprawling set like Justice, the Black Album and Load/Reload, but I'm perfectly fine with an abbreviated (and cheaper!) set.

I found a recent announcement poster, I realize that it doesn't specifically mention box sets, but we'll see. And I'm not sure why S&M is mentioned first, as Garage Inc. came out the year before. To be honest, S&M seems like an even more unlikely box set, but we'll see I guess.

Also found an older quote for Lars:

“There were some unexpected difficulties on the legal side that prevented the No Life ’Til Leather box set and our vision for how we were going to kick this whole reissue series off. We spent some time doing that dance, but then James (Hetfield) and I decided that it wasn’t worth it getting bogged down in all the unpleasantries, because this was supposed to be a celebration and not end up being a tug of war, so we thought, you know what, fuck it, we’ll just move on to Kill ’Em All.”

Who knows? I would LOVE to hear the original Mustaine versions of Jump in the Fire, etc. and Leather Charm's version of Motorbreath, they'd likely be included in such a set.

Oh nice when Metallica finally hit their stride, Reload.

<Actually kind of like Reload. It's way better than Load. Just an easy joke>

Load was the first Metallica record I bought. Shit, 30 years ago, broooooo!

That's why I love the Cunning Stunts DVD, even though I hate the truncated Masters of Puppets version.

NOPE! the more the better. The UYI set was a joke, i haven't bought it or even listened to it. And those are my favorite albums from them. Bullshit they rejected the Dolby Atmos versions

I and others love to listen to all those early riffs, demos and such. The 90's stuff is their best stuff. YES I SAID IT!

I'm sure they'll probably do a boxed set for St. Anger, though I don't know how many people would want it.

This box set is the most anticipated from fans. We want the Presidio stuff and the San Quentin performance video. Also alternate versions of songs with solos, etc. Hopefully Lars and James clears it.
I wish they would release Load & ReLoad Dolby Atmos in Physical form. And both box sets Are/were my most anticipated cause they're favorite Metallica albums.

I dig Reload but I am super excited for a St. Anger album. Loved it on release and still love it.

Should have at least had a red swirl in the vinyl.
