Big fan of the first two albums so I am looking forward to this.

New Charli XcX just came out and the new Kacey Musgraves next month, too.

I finally got around to listening to Guts, and it's way better than Sour, seems a lot more honest. The only thing I enjoyed on Sour was Good For You, but Guts has a lot of great stuff.

* disclaimer: I pretty much only listen to guitar-based rock and roll, which more than explains the previous statement

I think Guts is a way better album that Sour, though there are several songs I like on Sour as well.

Looking forward to this. Hope she uses the same producers.

On My Birthday

Not my genre but I've seen a few of her interviews and really respect the hell out of her.

Knows her music history, has talent, seems super level headed, etc

Not my genre either but I liked that she brought Robert Smith on stage to perform with her at Glastonbury. She seems pretty cool.

She does seem cool, and I liked some of the songs on Guts. Apparently she's been listening to a lot of The Cure, Joy Division and New Order, if those influences seep into the new album, I'm definitely interested in hearing it.

Our kids love her, of course. We'll get the CD.

Why the CD? Because they both have really nice modern portable CD players with FM radio, USB-C charging, headphone jack, Bluetooth, and the greatest skip protection the world has ever seen.

Why does that matter?

Because when they earn a consequence of losing their phone privileges and they want to whine that now they can't listen to their music app, guess what, you've got some CDs from Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift, not to mention all of the hundreds of CDs from your parents. You're fine.

Heh, that reminds me that a few years ago our internet went out for a few days. My daughter was grumpy because she couldn't watch The Office on Netflix, a show she had become addicted to. I told her "Don't worry, you can still watch your show" and whipped out my Blu-rays of The Office. I like to think that day she learned a little bit about the advantages of physical media.

Normally I don’t really follow a lot of newer artists. I kind of got into Olivia really late. But, I really like her stuff. I do have her first two CDs. Both both of them at Tower Records in Tokyo when I vacationed there. I recently got her live in Glastonbury CD.

But, I think you kind of have to be in a certain mood to listen to her.

Her concert collaboration with Billy Joel back in 2022 was when I decided to give her music a look or listen.

So I will definitely check this out.

I saw someone suggest that she do double-duty on SNL in May for the new album. I think that would be great - she seems like she'd be delightful on the show.
However since the album announcement didn't come with a lead single, I suspect she's planning on keeping all the tracks a secret until the album drops nine June.

I mean the point of losing their phone privileges seems to me to be the consequences, so having a backup seems less than ideal?

I hear you, but a music app is one thing of many on a device that's mostly about the other blood-sucking apps. We're a very musical family and they'd have to really screw up to not get to have access to music. Even growing up, I had my room's little TV and NES taken from time to time, along with other privileges when I messed up, but I always had my Walkman, Discman, and/or 3-disc changer stereo. If music helps them calm down, and if that lets them feel like they have some outlet when the lose the rest, I'm okay with that.

Does it have bonus tracks that are only avaliable on it? Or did she announce fourteen different versions each with their own bonus track(s)?

Even Adele and Megadeath do the Target exclusives with bonus tracks. For whatever deal making reason Target lands a lot of exclusives (and usually the one one) for artists of all genres.
