RIP Sal Buscema

Sal will always have a special place in my memory; the first Spider-Man comic I bought (or at least remember buying) and the first Spider-Man book I started collecting was his Spectacular Spider-Man run.
Sal Buscema, a veteran comics artist and part of the famed Buscema family of Marvel artists, has passed away. He was 89 years old when he died on Friday, and the news broke today, on what would have been his 90th birthday.

Sorry to hear this. I grew up on his Bronze Age Marvel, including the Defenders, Marvel Team-Up, and the Avengers.

I hate to hear this. I grew up on his artwork. He was a Marvel Legend as far as I am concerned.
I have been reading the Wraith War storyline I posted in the comic book cover thread, and he did a bunch of the issues for that.
He wasn't really known as a cover artist. He penciled the first 58 issues of ROM and only did one cover.
And despite a near 10 year run on The Incredible Hulk, which is what I know him the best from, he only did two covers of the regular series and an Annual cover.
Byrne inked the annual over Sal's pencils.
I recommend the Twomorrows book on Sal. It is no longer in print, but you can get it digitally from them.

I actually have that Incredible Hulk #278 signed by Sal. Not because I was a big fan but discovered upon reading it had been signed on the inside by him at some point. I picked it up at a convention as a regular back issue and the seller must not have realized it had been signed. I still picture Sal's Hulk in my mind when someone mentions the character.
