Monster: The Ed Gein story (Netflix) -- S: Charlie Hunnam -- Premieres 10/3/25
ABOUT MONSTER
Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm - hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein's perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades. From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein's macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn't just influence a genre -- he became the blueprint for modern horror.
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's groundbreaking anthology series returns with its third, most harrowing installment yet. Monster: The Ed Gein Story tells the story of how one simple man in Plainfield, Wisconsin became history's most singular ghoul. He revealed to the world the most horrific truth of all -- that monsters aren't born, they're made...by us.
Creators & Executive Producers: Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan
Executive Producers: Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, Charlie Hunnam

Disturbing is right. It’s kind of weird that this one guy is basically the inspiration for three of the most iconic horror stories in modern film. No way this isn’t going to feel derivative even if it’s just his story. I didn’t watch the other two Monster series. Were they good?

It's shocking just how much Charlie Hunnam resembles the real Ed Gein.
I think I started the Dahmer Monster, but never finished it because I got bored. Like a lot of streaming miniseries, it felt like a two hour movie stretched into eight hours.
Never bothered with the Menendez series.

Wow. They are really scaping the bottom of the ole monster barrel now. Ed Gein. I love true crime, but not sure I want Ed Gein roaming around in my head.
I think I will take a pass on that one.

Dahmer was OK, but it was campy, typical Ryan Murphy pulp. The Menendez story was way better. I'm not sure if Ed Gein is any fun, but I like Charlie Hunnam.
Wild Bill is only the side character in The Silence of the Lambs. It's Lecter who became the legend, Leatherface is barely a character at all, that leaves Norman Bates, who's kind of tame compared to the real deal.

I think Monster Season 4 is going to be Lizzie Borden, but I'd really like to see them do H. H. Holmes and Albert Fish in upcoming seasons.

H.H. Holmes. What a diabolical bastard. I have read quite a bit about him. There are some that I find too disturbing. Albert Fish, Ed Gein, and Dahmer are three of them. (shudder)...

I’m looking forward to this too. Though I wish they went with the Gacy spinoff first. The few scenes in the Dahmer season were intense.

Finished the season. I enjoyed it, but it had a weird ending where they made Gein seem likeable.
There were some scenes that I could have gone my whole life without seeing. Absolutely disgusting.

I liked it too and it did make him a sympathetic character but the finale was kooky.
Maybe he did change and did not want the murders and gruesome acts to define his life.
I will never hear "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones the same way again.
Yuk!
Hunnam should get a Emmy and probably one of the best performances of his career and I liked him in Shantaram too a show nobody watched.
They did have side stories on Psycho, Texas Chainsaw, and Silence of Lambs but really not necessary and felt like a distraction since Gein was such a twisted F and you wanted more Hunnam scenes.
Laurie Metcalf and Suzanna Son were great too.
They should do a show on the Night Stalker but it seems most of the people they cover are not straight.

How about Peter Sutcliffe better know as the Yorkshire Ripper who murder 13 women. Siouxsie and The Banshees wrote a song about him called Night Shift.

I never heard of Illse Koch the Nazi Women or "Witch of Bunchenwald" that Vicky Krieps played and had a movie based on her.
I don't know what is in the water in Wisconsin and they produced two of the most deranged people ever Gein and Jeffrey Dahmer.

B-movie? It swept the Oscars that year. Currently at 105% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I just finished this, and agree with MLBFan24... Definitely some scenes I could've done without.
Great job by Charlie Hunnam. I thought he was over the top, at first, but changed my mind as the show progressed.
Didn't realize where I knew Laurie Metcalf from, until I saw the credit for her as 'Marcie Dahlgren-Frost'
What a painful tease, giving us the Manhunter 'cameo' even getting Happy Anderson to reprise his role as Jerry Brudos. Too bad they didn't actually use 'Holden and Bill,' although it's fair play that they used the names of the real life Ressler and Douglas.

This is really bad and easily the worst one. So much of the shit happening here, well, never f'n happened - Hey I love TCM and Psycho, didn't need to see them go into that though (but damn that TCM recreation was outstanding).
Gein wasn't even considered a serial killer either.
Hunnam did an outstanding job though as did Metcalf. Shame, what a waste. I made it to the episode where they show him running around with the chainsaw like a jackass - I tuned out after that.
This could have been on the same level as the Dahmer series, even better, but they went the wrong way.
