MEGADETH: Final Album + Global Farewell Tour
“There's so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don't get to go out on their own terms on top, and that's where I'm at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.
We can't wait for you to hear this album and see us on tour. If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it's now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it's now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it's our last studio album. We've made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour. Don't be mad, don't be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years. We have done something together that's truly wonderful and will probably never happen again. We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it's played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.”

For me, Megadeth has been the only big 4 band to put out new material that is on par or even better than some of their early material. Endgame could have come out between Peace and Rust. Dystopia was also solid top to bottom. New single does sound good, hopefully the rest of the album is on par. Saw them a few months ago and they sounded great live. May try to catch them one more time.

For me, all of the Big 4 peaked in the 80s.
1983 - Kill'em All
1984 - Ride the Lightning
1985 - Spreading the Disease
1986 - Master of Puppets
1986 - Peace Sells But Who's Buying
1986 - Reign in Blood
1987 - Among the Living
1988 - And Justice for All (great songs, iffy production)
1988 - South of Heaven
1990 - Persistence of Time
1990 - Seasons in the Abyss
1990 - Rust in Peace
Twelve brilliant albums.

Megadeth with only Mustaine doesn't interest me too much, I mean it's not a band at this point. It's a solo act.

Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Testament - The Legacy
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Plus I also really like Megadeth's debut.
And that's not even counting what was coming out in Europe at the same time, great albums from Mercyful Fate, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Celtic Frost, Bathory, etc. What an incredible era for metal that was.

One would think that Dave would eventually let go of the whole used-to-be-in-Metallica thing, but no, it just gets more and more intense.

He should have recorded his original version of Jump in the Fire instead (with his original lyrics and arrangement from his previous band), that would have been more interesting to hear IMO.

I Don't Care sounds like it was written by a 15 year old that was just told he couldn't go to the movies with his friend. Tipping Point also wore out it's welcome pretty quickly as well. Don't think this album is going to hit for me.

One of exclusive variants purportedly has an extra track "Bloodlust". (A Target exclusive).
Wonder if this is an original, or a cover (such as Venom, Body Count, Samson, etc ....)

Re: MEGADETH: Final Album + Global Farewell Tour
New album is meh IMO. And the Ride The Lightning version is vastly inferior to the original. It sounds sterile and the vocals are weak. I'd give the album a generous 6/10.

Re: MEGADETH: Final Album + Global Farewell Tour
This whole thing sounds like everyone is phoning it in. I don't understand how a guy that used to write such great lyrics can't find something meaningful to say on his last album. I mean he was writing decent stuff as recently as 2016 with Dystopia. The music is boring to boot. Disappointing.
