Alien: Earth -- (S1E01, E02) -- "Neverland / Mr. October" -- 8/12/25

FX'S ALIEN: EARTH: TWO-EPISODE SERIES PREMIERE
When the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, Wendy (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat in FX's "Alien: Earth."
In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. In this corporate era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). The first hybrid prototype named "Wendy" marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani's spaceship collides into Prodigy City, Wendy and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life-forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.

2 episode premiere. From the creator of Fargo. 8 episode season.
It will air on FX (if you still watch live TV) at 8pm ET
and also drop on Hulu/Disney Plus at the same time.
It's another prequel to the movies. This write up explains where it takes place.

I know Noah Hawley has done some genius stuff playing around with the Fargo universe but this really was unexpected and quite amazing. For me this has already risen to be the second best Alien related material after the original movie. FX are movie-quality. I had to keep reminding myself that this is a first run TV series. Can't wait to see where things go over the next 6 episodes. Love that most of the cast is relatively unknown. And yes of course, Timothy Olyphant is fantastic.

Both episodes are now on Disney+ with Hulu.
65 minutes for episode 1
55 minutes for episode 2
Probably won’t expect much talk until tomorrow since you’ll need some time to digest these.

I assume there's $$ to be made by including songs over the end credits, but it's a terrible note to end episodes on. Would be hard pressed to find a better way to self sabotage your hours worth of work.
Overall decent start, wish we spent more time with the original crew - the whole first episode could've revolved around that and end with the crash. Some of the daytime city shots just weren't working for me, I feel like the city design could've been more unique, with a more interesting time of day for the crash.
Definitely some Alien 3 vibes here with the editing, alien pov and excessive gore. I'm glad Romulus was more like the first two movies, but I'm fine with this show following Alien 3.

this was movie quality stuff on the small screen. they nailed the aesthetic amazingly. this is a perfect entry in the Alien series. really loved everything. it really was like watching a movie. just spectacular. at least the one ep i saw this morning. and, i absolutely loved the title card and how it mimicked the original.

I'll probably keep going, but I have diminished expectations for sure.

I have the same problem with this as with shows like Game Of Thrones and the recently Battlestar Galactica, too many damn characters. I found it really slow and I am not sure I will be sticking with it.

slow is definitely not a word i would use for the first ep at least. it was a perfect set up and the real focus is on Wendy. that's all we are supposed to connect with right now. slow, no. action and great pacing, yes. and, all the bodies are just chum for the creatures. they are all expendable except Wendy and maybe Timothy Olyphant's character. they'll soon fall off and it will be more focused, though i don't consider the premiere to be scattershot.

Have watched both episodes. Gonna probably be some spoilers here.
Took me a bit to get into episode one but when we got to the montage of them making more synthetics I got locked in and I'm loving it. For the critique of not showing enough of the crew on the ship, I feel like you don't watch enough shows to realize there will probably be a flashback episode about what happened prior to the crash with the Alien escaping. On episode two, loved the slaughter at the rich people party and the capture of the Alien. That was really well done. It's hilarious how Ice Age is now canon with the Alien universe. The expanding of the world by stating how there are 5(?) ruling companies was really cool and interesting. I think eight episodes is a good number for this. Super curious to see if and how they link this up with the original movie. I can see how no one on Nostradamus would know what happened except for those involved and then I'm sure those people end up dead.

Awesome content. Few things that irked me. Genius boy can transfer human conscious into a synthetic body but he didn't have a way of knowing a giant ship was en route to crash on their island?
I don't know if they tried to get Brian Tyree Henry to play the cyborg, but I couldn't think of anything other than Paperboi in space when the actor was on screen.

I understand why Prodigy uses kids to place into the hybrids. There's not just the innocence, but the air of feeling invincible. That's a child's trait. When they're on the ship and Kirsh reminds them that fear doesn't exist because they're not animals. The new kids just didn't have the time in their bodies yet as Wendy has. I don't think we need time with the original crew members, other than Morrow, they're just fodder. And we'll most likely learn more about him and WY as time goes by.

The camera sure loves the heroine's wide eyed Amelie face. So far it's like Beyond the Poseidon Adventure crossed with Prometheus with some clunky Peter Pan and the usual out of context needle drop to seem edgy.

Either way, humans can travel deep space but don't have 2025 level of a warning system?

So how is the look of the show? Does it look like it belongs with Alien/Aliens? I'll watch sometime this weekend, but just curious.

This was a great start. As already mentioned, they did an excellent job of giving this the aesthetic of the original Alien movies. I like Wendy and the lost boys, and Olyphant is cool as their mentor. I was a little surprised at how quickly we got to the xenomorph and friends wreaking havoc.

This was indeed a great start to this series, and Sydney Chandler as Wendy really is doing some top notch acting in this show.
I believe that Alan Sepinwall mentioned the eyeball creature as being nightmare fuel in his review and he was correct. I was thankful though that they did not go the route of having Wendy and/or her Lost Boys being immediately infected by the creature and they caught the bugger.
Timothy Olyphant continues to be one of those actors that can just do anything he is asked to do in film/TV.
I even liked how one of the Lost Boys ignored Wendy's plea to stop talking and revealed she is the soldiers sister.
I am enthusiastically looking forward to next weeks episode.

I thought it was excellent. I watched both episodes on the edge of my seat. Great visual fit with Alien and Aliens. New creatures were creepy as hell. Made my skin crawl when the two handcuffed guys got killed. I liked the music at the end especially 'The Mob Rules'.
Only one issue with it... the fate of the cat. Yeah the xenomorph can slaughter dozens and I'm fine with it but hurt the cat...

In Aliens isn't kitty the only one who shows they aren't afraid of the xenomorph and hisses right back at it in its face? Everyone thinks dogs are the best but kitty is badass!
