Dexter: Resurrection - Murder Horny (S1E5) - 8/1/25

An encounter pushes Harrison further into his own darkness, escalating his fear of arrest; as Batista closes in, Dexter pursues a dangerous connection with a seductive killer, believing they operate under a similar code.

Great episode. Delighted to say that this season in general is really exceeding my expectations.

Only halfway through but I think this is the best season in a long, long time. It seemed obvious that Dexter/Mia wouldn’t work as a pairing.

Brilliant move by Dexter calling the cops and framing her as Ryan Foster’s killer. I imagine that she’ll be taken out soon based on what Charley said to her, and clearly Prater wants her dealt with.

Batista is digging his own grave. More and more I think Harrison will be the one to kill him. He tried to deceive him and play on his emotions and ultimately could have led to him turning himself in or getting arrested, whereas Dexter is his dad and saved him.

Clever to frame Mia for the hotel guest's death, but the anonymous call should make things sticky.
Mia's going to eventually find out that she was caught based on the guy screaming and her calling herself "Lady Vengeance" - loud enough for the neighbor to hear. All things that didn't happen. Plus the watch she has in her possession that she knows nothing about. This info get's back to Charley plus NPH no longer being around - it's raising suspicion from Charley/Prater on Dexter more than killing Mia would have.

This season continues to be the best since season 4 with Trinity. I do think the watch deal was both clever but also going to lead to Dexter's downfall. Sure it tied everything up in a nice little bow. But could he not envision a few steps down the road where Mia is questioned about Ryan Foster? Like obviously the lady detective is going to want to question her regarding it. Which will lead to her maybe show a picture of Harrison. That doesn't ring any bells. What about his father Dexter. Wait that's not Ronald Schmit?? That's surely going to happen from either Claudette, Batista, or Charlie right? And lead to Charlie & Prater catching on, and lead to Claudette & Batista catching on.

I was pretty surprised at the reveal that Mia's code was all bullshit. That was a good story beat. It deflated the audience probably just as much as the character Dexter. Good writing there I think. Dexter opening up and finally revealing he was the reason Rita got murdered to Harrison was well done too. That's one of the things that annoyed me to no end when Deb found out. There's so many questions she should have. But us as the audience never saw those conversations because the weaker writing teams near the end would rather just avoid all of that. But that's what we want to see. We want those conversations. We want Dexter reflecting on it and seeing how the characters around him react to it. Like Deb not asking if Dexter killed Doakes is a gigantic plot hole to me. Her being okay with her brother murdering an innocent collogue was so out of character for her. We know it wasn't him, but she doesn't.

Hopefully they keep up the momentum and stick the landing. This has been a fun season.

There have been so many things that could have led to Dexter’s downfall by this point. Who really knows how they’ll play it.

It seems like somehow Mia will get killed before she’s able to have a confession if you ask me. Maybe she’ll be questioned, but not enough to give the full information Batista needs to pin Dexter down. After all the show is planned for multiple seasons so I don’t think Dexter will be caught by the season finale.

I think one way or another Batista will lead to Dexter’s downfall. Whether that’s him being the one to bring him in or through his death or disappearance. If he gets killed dots are going to get connected that, how convenient that he’s hunting Dexter and suddenly is killed or goes missing.

My bet is still on Harrison taking Batista out. I don’t think Dexter will be the one doing it, but could be wrong about that. I think Harrison will have a moment where he’s torn much like Deb was.

They’ve already played out the scenario where he “kills” his father. This time he’s been lied to by Batista and in a moment of self preservation and anger plus devotion to his father will take care of the perceived problem.

No... no downfall. No Dexter gets killed again.

They're going to keep making these things until Hall is ninety and he's still killing people in a wheelchair like Bobby Bacala Sr.

I know this is planned as a multi season series. Saying it'll be his downfall doesnt mean I think he's captured and it'll end after 5 more episodes. I mean it'll be his downfall and lead to either having to go on the run or get captured and escape again. Or getting captured and working with the FBI Hannabal style. We cant take every story telling possibility off the board just because there's gonna be more seasons.

Could just mean him & Harrison split town and go somewhere else.

I suspect that the plan for Dexter is to have him visit a new locale each season of Resurrection. Maybe with Batista tracking him and trying to catch him.

They could sure use him on White Lotus...
