War of the Worlds (2025, D: Rich Lee) -- S: Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg -- Amazon Prime

This modern-day adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel follows “Will Radford (Ice Cube), a top cyber-security analyst for Homeland Security, who spends his days tracking potential threats to national security through a mass surveillance program, until an attack by an unknown entity leads him to question whether the government is hiding something from him… and the rest of the world.”

Comes out on Amazon July 30th.

Yup, this is loosely based on the HG Wells story.

So they’re using the Searching gimmick of the entire movie taking place on the computer? I think I’ll pass.

Didn't we just have a Tom Cruise version of this?

(Well, if 20 years ago counts as "just have." To me it does.)

And I’m pretty sure there’s been a couple SyFy Channel quality mini-series’ and movies made in between the Tom Cruise version and this one as well.

There was a BBC mini series about 5 years ago. I think it's streaming on AMC+.

I think this new found footage version looks cool. It's also 2.5 hours.

This is live on PRIME. 4K HDR/5.1.

The running time got revised to 89 minutes.

89 minutes of reaction shots of Ice Cube sitting in a chair is a lot better than 2 1/2 hours.

Just finished it and it was awful. Welp. Read that it was shot way back in 2020 during Covid.

Unless the hour of missing footage is all Eva Longoria nude scenes . . .

You don’t need to watch this movie. Just watch Dan Murrell’s snarky recap. It’s hilarious 😂

The movie is also a giant Amazon ad

Sounds like a total disaster

I find it amusing that the online critics are uniting to try and keep people from watching this movie.

All I needed to see was the Amazon rating on Prime at 2 1/2 stars. Everything below 3 1/2 is automatically crap. Can’t imagine sitting through a 2 1/2er.

Or there’s also that Ice Cube has only been in 3 good movies in his career and they were all in the 90s.

I think he’s fun in the Jump Street movies.

This is not in the same league as the 2005 Spielberg Cruise War of the Worlds the gold standard of War of the Worlds film or TV projects.

Maybe this movie is karma for Ice Cube since he never really apologized for "Black Korea" a song with racial slurs on the Death Certificate album I owned in high school on cassette.

Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park was a fan but that song did not sit well with him.

Re: War of the Worlds (2025, D: Rich Lee) -- S: Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg -- Amazon Prime

Djariya beat everyone to the punch by linking to the Murrell review. I was going to note that critics seemed not to be very kind to this film and was going to mention Murrell's review (but probably would not have put up a link to it) so glad it was already brought up.

I think I tried watching a War Of The Worlds movie/series that was on I believe Hulu several years back and I was not drawn into the film/series at all.

The BBC one looks interesting now that I viewed the trailer but probably not going to rush to see it.

It sounds like this film was a missed opportunity, Ice Cube fighting aliens...actually sounds kind-of interesting, but apparently not, lol!!

Going to check out the Murrell review right now.

ETA: The review was a lot of fun to watch. I love when Murrell is all like didn't the President of the U.S. learn anything from Independence Day? When he is holding up Independence Day as a film to learn from you know this film is a real turkey.

Also, I love that this film apparently acts as one long commercial for Amazon Prime Delivery.

It has a ZERO Rotten Tomato score! Actually 0%.

I've watched one minute of this film, and that's enough.

Watched it today. It's a bad film but far from the worst movie I've ever seen as some are saying about it.

Queer with Daniel Craig was ten times worse though not saying War of the Worlds is Raging Bull either.

Sitting at 0% and 19% (critic/audience) on RottenTomatoes.

Sounds dreadful.

I skimmed through some of this last night, and it appears to be just a giant Amazon add. "I need this right away! Let me just go to Amazon.com. They always have what I need!"

Couldn't actually watch more than about 5 minutes.

Watching the trailer for this was less bad than eating a basket of onion rings, but it wasn't exactly a good stretch after a long drive.
