What are your top 10 favorites of 2025 through June?

I know there are probably some of you who haven't seen at least 10 movies this year. But, for those what say you?

I don't know if I'll ever revisit anything below my top 5. Other than Sinners not a single movie I would recommend to absolutely anyone without any caveats. Hasn't been a great half year of movies for me.

Wow, I would not have thought there were 10 good enough movies released so far this year for people to have that many favorites.

I mean if you've seen 10 movies .... at least that's how I took it.

Looking at all the movies released since the beginning of the year, I’ve only seen five total:

Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning
How to Train Your Dragon
A Minecraft Movie


None of them were great. I did like the last Mission: Impossible movie but, most likely, it won’t end up on my “best of” list for the year.

I am going to watch Sinners tonight.

I've only seen 29 2025 releases so far this year:
Of those, the best movies are Sinners, The Shroud, Bring Her Back, The Phoenician Scheme, Materialists, but honestly, I'll be very disappointed if at the end of the year most of these don't move from the top of the list to the Honorable Mention category.

I narrowly "beat" Crocker at 31 movies, but I've really not loved most of them. Even a few in my top 10, I'd categorize as "OK". I've been hitting my backlog hard though, so this stuff can't compete with like, Ran, Nashville, Buddha's Palm, In the Mood for Love, Rio Bravo, Zodiac, which I've all seen for the first time this year.

I would figure that an elite group like the one here would only have very good movies as their favorites. Frasier's list of favorite wines ain't gonna include no three buck chuck.

I just think 2024 was honestly a pretty incredible year for movies, especially in the first half of the year and for more independent stuff. Although there's a couple releases this year that I couldn't make work in my schedule that I really wanted to see, like Warfare and Friendship.

I really liked Warfare. It made my list and I did see it in the theater. It's probably one of the "smaller" big movies this year. I wish I caught it in IMAX, but showings were extremely limited in my area and the times were often too late. I did get the 4K disc the other day and intend to revisit it soon.
