Pitching anime to HBO in 1996
I found a memo I wrote to an executive at HBO whom I'd met at a New York University alumni event, in which I pitched anime and Hong Kong films to the station. I posted it to my blog with some context added: https://briandanacamp.wordpress.com/...and-hong-kong/
It's an interesting snapshot of what I thought needed to be singled out at the time as elements of Asian pop culture were increasing their fanbase in the U.S.. (This coincided with an anime festival airing elsewhere on cable on the Sci-Fi Channel.) Some of the choices and omissions baffle me nearly 30 years later, but I thought you might want to take a look.

Thanks for sharing, sorry I missed this earlier. A cool snapshot in time. I am a little surprised HBO didn't get the license to show any anime in this era (though maybe all those showings of Warriors of the Wind in the 80s ticked Miyazaki off personally or something.) Or maybe the home video licensors who dubbed these didn't want to dilute their sales. One note is that while Giant Robo would've been amazing, I don't think the last episode came out until like 1998 or something (I just remember waiting an eternity for it)
