I just binged this over the last few days. I really liked it. Matthew Goode is great as a detective who's kind of a prick, but very good at his job. I've read some comparisons of his character with Hugh Laurie's 'Gregory House.' Definitely some similarities in their abrasiveness, though Goode's detective 'Carl Morck' isn't the genius that House is. Morck assembles a small team for a new department to investigate cold cases. This season covers one case. Kelly Macdonald has a smaller role as a therapist. There are some other familiar faces, like Chloe Pirrie (Carnival Row, The Queen's Gambit) and Kate Dickie ('Lisa Arryn' in Game of Thrones).

2 episodes in and really enjoying this as well. The wife not so much.
Oddly I saw the trailer and didn’t even realize it was Matthew Goode.
Apparently based on a book series. Either way the structure/purpose of the department easily allows more series.

I have two episodes to go and I'm loving this show. Well written and Goode is fantastic in this role.

I will give this show a chance, but I doubt it will be as good as the movie adapations, at least to part 4, afterwards they changed the cast. Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares were great together and the movies have been great thrillers.

I had no idea there were movies! Just looked them up and some (maybe all) are streaming on AMC+. I'll have to re-subscribe for awhile I guess.

Like Bandoman I had no clue there were film adaptations of the books, as I have not seen the films nor read the books.
I may have mentioned this in another thread, but I put this show on a Saturday morning the weekend it was released on Netflix and for the first time in a long while I watched from start to finish as I thought this was a great show. It has been a minute since I was drawn into a newly released show/mini-series to the point where I literally spend the entire day watching it.
Matthew Goode's team of the frizzy haired cop and the Syrian "IT" guy were highlights. I look forward to another season a year or two from now.

Excellent. I guess the Syrian guy is Swedish.
loved it. 8 books it seems. Let’s go.

Netflix has entered Dept Q for nomination for an Emmy for best drama, which is a signal they're going to have another season.

I guess I'm the opposite on this show from everyone.
3 shows in and I'm still waiting for some progress on the missing Judge and maybe a hint at who has her.
Also looks like the entire season is going to be one missing person case.
I wouldn't mind something on the mystery person who did the killing in the first episode.
Just need something to happen and not much has three shows in.

Finish watching it and also enjoy it. Agreed with everyone that Matthew Goode was great in this, nice to see Kelly MacDonald even it was a small part. Hopefully to see season 2 from Netflix,

Best series I've seen in a while. It makes you go WTF??? after 5 min, and you're hooked. Excellent writing and acting. Bring on S2, we need more Akram.

We've been watching this the past few days. Slow burn but it gets better every episode. Characters are all well done. Easy recommend.

I haven’t watched this at all. But the novels are set in Scandinavia and the main character is a grump.
This sounds way different and I’ll probably end up watching it.

There were a lot of characters to keep track of, but I liked the show and would watch another season. I wonder how long the mystery about his shooting will go on.

I just happened to notice that the show has been renewed when I was checking out the TVline site. Great news and it felt like renewing should have been a no-brainer decision but with Netflix you can end up waiting a surprisingly long amount of time before a decision is made.
As I noted just a few posts upthread, one of the rare shows that I actually binge watched instead of watching an ep or two, then drifting to another show and maybe coming back to this show over the course of a few weeks, nope...watched it all in less than 24 hours.

Wife and I had started this, but she wasn’t as interested so I had to finish by myself as time permitted.
This was easily the best thing I’ve watched all year.
I usually spot the killer with 10 minutes on many (US) shows but had no clue here. The big reveal towards the end was shocking too. Talk about pulling the rug.
I will say the last few episodes had some brutal aspects to the point where I avoid them. Also, whoever played the young brother was creepy AF.
I really liked how they tied things up, but circled back to tie up some loose ends. I was expecting a resolution to the shooting that kicked things off, but it’s interesting if that carries over. Perhaps that’s the case the supervisor wants to give Hardy?
