Alex Garland Set To Direct Live-Action ‘Elden Ring’ Movie For A24

A24 has now confirmed what’s been rumored for weeks — that Alex Garland will write and direct a live-action Elden Ring film for A24 and video game company Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.
This comes following the release of Warfare, his A24 Iraq war pic directed with Ray Mendoza, which has grossed over $32 million since opening last month. Peter Rice is set to produce alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, as well as George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.
Released to critical acclaim in February 2022, Elden Ring is an action RPG set in an authentic dark fantasy world, which allows players to head off on adventures within vast environments and dungeons. Created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game is based on a story written by Martin, author of the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, which served as the basis for HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Over 30 million units have shipped worldwide over the last few years. An Elden Ring spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign, is slated for release worldwide on Friday, May 30.
Four of Garland’s five directorial efforts released to date have been with A24. He broke out behind the camera with 2014’s Ex Machina before going on to Annihilation (the exception, distributed by Paramount), Men, Civil War, and the aforementioned Warfare. Most recently, Garland has been working as a writer and producer on multiple films in a new 28 Years Later zombie trilogy for Sony. The first title, directed by Danny Boyle, is slated for release on June 20.
DNA’s relationship with Garland dates back to 2002’s 28 Days Later, for which he wrote the screenplay. Rice joined that company in producing the upcoming 28 Years Later.
Garland is repped by WME and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

This is crazy that they are making a movie of this. I played so much of this in '24 and it's one of my favorite games ever, even got the Platinum trophy for it, so I'm definitely already seated for this. Having Garland gives me really high hopes.

Garland is a fine writer/director but for some reason I assume this will turn out like Annihilation. Not necessarily a bad thing but I think it'll be exceedingly vague.
I forgot he wrote some of the DmC game scripts.

And it's gonna have to have a gigantic budget, too.

This may be A24's swing for the fences moment.

Since the Souls games and it's clones only set up worlds without really telling a story, they are pretty free in telling their own story without pissing of fans.
