Seeing the Fan Event IMAX screening at 2pm Thursday.

Here is how the entire series ranked on RT. The worst reviewed ones were 1 and 2.

I see it now. I guess you were still working on it.

With a reported $400M budget, not counting marketing, this is going to have a hell of a time to become profitable. The MI movies have never been billion dollar movies. This will need a lot of help internationally.

I just saw Part 1 a few weeks ago, but I’m watching it again now and I’m just awe struck. I’m seeing things, listening more intently and it has become a vastly superior movie since the first 2-3 times I’ve seen it. Amazing how tastes can change, since I disliked my first viewing.

I hope to see this Friday, if not early next week. I don’t care if reviews aren’t as stellar as a the last few, especially Part 1 of Dead Reckoning. I’m going in with gusto.

So is Hayley Atwell not a terrible actress anymore?

Thanks for the link, very interesting. Overall I agree with the rankings, though I'm surprised at Dead Reckoning, somewhere in the mid 80's would feel appropriate for it. I hold this series and the Daniel Craig Bond films in the same regard (have seen a number of them with my Dad) I'll always enjoy watching them. Taking my folks to a Friday afternoon IMAX showing.

It means 9.6 out of every 10 reviews liked Dead Reckoning. That seemed like the consensus 2 years ago when it came out until more people and fans like you started to watch it again via streaming or physical media and found flaws and logic issues.

Woah there, I know how the ratings work - the flaw being it doesn't tell you the degree of the positive or negative. (best picture of the year vs moderately enjoyed gets the same positive) Maybe you're confusing me with someone else but my feelings haven't budged an inch since release. And it looks like this one falls into some of those same trappings, meaning a good film that doesn't reach the greatness of the previous entries - nothing wrong with that, I'm still expecting to enjoy the film.

Copy that. And yes you’re right about RT. Someone who gave Dead Reckoning a B- and a moderate recommendation would still be positive vs someone who thought it was the best of the series. RT is flawed like that.

Re: Mission Impossible- The Final Reckoning (McQuarrie, 2025) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Was it excessive? Sure. Was it ridiculous? Definitely? But other than MI:2's extremely dated 1990s Woo-ness, I don't think there's been a truly bad MI movie, and by the end of this one I was having a blast, even if it took a little while to get going. The two big stunt set pieces are frankly astonishing and a welcome change from CGI-slathered blurs. I watched MI:7 the night before checking this out (and on a second viewing, it actually improved a bit for me) and I must say nearly 6 hours of Tom Cruise running around is a bit much for everyone, but this series has been a heck of a blast, far more consistent overall than James Bond in recent years.

...And it occurred to me the other day that if Sean Connery played Bond for as long as Cruise has been Ethan Hunt, he would've been in Bond movies until 1991!!

Anyway, it's a good time. It could've been tighter and shorter and the plot really strains belief at times but if this is the end - which it probably should be - it's been a great 8 movie run.

yes, actually. she's nice to look at, but i genuinely dislike her as an actor. I really wish Ferguson was still around. Her, I liked, a lot.

Re: Mission Impossible- The Final Reckoning (McQuarrie, 2025) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I just got back. Was it a great Mission Impossible movie? Probably not. But, I thought it was pretty good and had some really spectacular and harrowing sequences. The underwater sequence was especially harrowing. And yes the plane sequence was pretty crazy to watch in IMAX. Tom Cruise is nuts, but I respect his passion for wanting to entertain audiences and making his movies look as real as possible.

There is one death, but I won’t spoil it just yet since a lot of you haven’t seen it yet. But, it is sad.

And yes there are a lot of callbacks. Shea Whigham being revealed as Jim Phelps Jr was an interesting reveal.

Was it a little too long? Probably. I think 2 hours and 49 minutes was a little overkill. This series has never been realistic. But, maybe the whole “Entity” thing went a little too much into science fiction.

They said that two months had passed since the events of Dead Reckoning. I’m glad they didn’t force Hayley Atwell’s Grace as a new romantic interest for Ethan.

If this was indeed the end, I think they went out on a good note.

I do have a complaint. This Fan Event screening was clearly advertised as “No Trailers or Ads”. Show up early.

I showed up 20 minutes early and they were playing The Noovie and proceeded to show 25 minutes of trailers Never going to believe that again.

This was perfect for IMAX. The sub and airplane scenes were top notch. I just had a lot of fun with it by letting it take me for a ride. The call backs to MI1 and MI3 were nice. If this is truly the end, then it's ends at a good place. They really shouldn't do any spin offs or anything like that.

Re: Mission Impossible- The Final Reckoning (McQuarrie, 2025) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I saw it last night. It was worse than I was expecting and I wasn't expecting it to be good. There were good action scenes but the scenes-between-the-action-scenes went on too long and had some bad writing. It also seemed like they wrote it for people playing on their phones while watching it since they explained all the plot points over and over. The first hour felt like a clip show with all the flash backs to previous movies. The cast's acting was okay but the writing was kind of bad. I thought they should have tended a little more toward 'campy' because i didn't feel the 'ultra-serious' worked. Atwell and Pegg were good; the sub captain was great.
Issues/questions with scenes:
1 - the off-screen scene of Ethan Hunt beating up henchmen seemed out of place. It went long for comical effect but then kept going and made it seem like he was a psycho when he should have been chasing down the other guy
2 - the decompression chamber - could Atwell's character be in the chamber with him?
3 - the lack of showing the payoff for the bearded guy, his wife and the agent disarming the bomb at the end. It's an action movie, if there are bombs exploding, at least show it! Or don't show it being disarmed for ten minutes

Okay I’ll ask this question. What was going on with Luther? I felt like I was missing something. He was in a private room with a hospital bed apparently being treated for something.

this was very meh. certainly not exciting as the others have been. the underwater scene was too long and not very interesting. the whole thing just didn't gel. it certainly had the least action of the franchise. i did like the very end, but the rest was so mediocre. so many questions that will be unanswered. how did Luther survive that explosion and wind up in a hospital with barely a visible bruise? if Ethan didn't have a parachute at the end, how did he manage to have 2 (the one that caught on fire and the one that he landed with)? the way Gabriel died was so uninteresting and stupid to be honest. just a dumb way for such a character to go, parachuting and hitting his head on the wing or whatever? c'mon that is not how the big baddie goes. even the speeches (words), sans Luther's audio clip at end, were slow and low and very little used. it was all so jumbled i barely knew what was going on and it seemed like we've seen most of this before in the other movies of the franchise. it wasn't interesting and sorry to say, but i was very disappointed.

Both my friend and I loved it. Very fitting end (hopefully) for the series and part 2 of Dead Reckoning. Both the underwater and flying scenes were awesome.

We saw the next show after the fan event and there were tons of the posters left over. I walked out with 3 of them.

Luther did not survive the explosion that was a flashback.

Ethan jumped into the front seat of Gabriel's plane where there was another parachute. The primary parachute was the one that burned and he landed with the backup chute.

Like Meathead said, Luther was dead. That was a quick flashback to an earlier conversation.

And every parachute has a backup.

I will agree for a big villain in 2 movies, Gabriel’s death was a little anticlimactic.

and the President (Bassett) could have at least relinquished Ethan and his team's disavowed state. at least get some reward for saving the entire world from nuclear destruction. and it would have been nice if Luthor wasn't disavowed and got a star or whatever they do for fallen CIA agents. that would have been a bittersweet ending and apropos.
