DANGEROUS ANIMALS, exclusively in theaters June 6, 2025. Director: Sean Byrne Starring: Jai Courtney, Hassie Harrison, Josh Heuston
I've seen this trailer a few times over the last few weeks in the theater Most recently when I saw Final Destination: Bloodlines. Looks fun. Courtney looks crazy as the bad guy.

Re: Dangerous Animals (2025, D: Byrne) -- S: Jai Courtney -- Serial Killer/Shark horror movie
This was a surprisingly effective thriller despite the fact that it never really transcends its formulaic serial killer premise. Jai Courtney (channeling Tom Hardy) makes for a highly watchable sleazebag villain and Hassie Harrison (channeling Jennifer Lawrence) is an appealingly feisty damsel-in-distress. The ocean setting and shark-based kills help set this apart from your standard slasher movie and director Sean Byrne (The Loved Ones) is able to generate an impressive amount of tension from the proceedings despite an overly predictable narrative arc. So, despite cringey dialogue, a final 30 minutes that stretch credibility beyond its breaking point, and a romantic angle that tries to add depth to the plot but ends up being way more cheesy than compelling, Dangerous Animals is a taut little B-movie with a bit more grittiness and bite than your standard Hollywood fare.
I give this movie a severed thumbs up.

The movie was awesome. I think Jai Courtney was channeling Gerard Butler -- shit, he looks like him now.

This was a solid Indie Horror movie. Courtney was great and diabolical as the villain.
The young actress, Hassie Harrison, who played Zephyr was also solid as the heroine. I forgot that she had a recurring part in Yellowstone.
Good mix of horror and shark movie. Some good tension.

I just got back from seeing this one, enjoyed it well enough, although it dragged a little for me towards the end. The actress definitely looked and sounded like Jennifer Lawrence, surprising to look her up just now and find that she's older than JLaw. But it can get frustrating to see her able to escape multiple times and get caught again. Heck, she knocks him out and doesn't finish him off with the shiv or think to cuff him to the bed before he recovered.

This is on VOD now.
Imperfect but with enough unique flourishes that this should be a sizeable streaming hit. I enjoyed it. Also I like this phase of unhinged Jai Courtney.

Enjoyed this one a lot, despite being formulaic as people here have already said. It certainly held my attention all the way through, I was invested in the characters and the story, and was waiting for the obvious ending. I do agree it ran about 10 minutes longer than it should have (98 minute runtime, this should have been less than 90), but I still liked it.
Now streaming on Shudder.

I'll add to the chorus of this being a very effective thriller, more entertaining as a movie than it must have looked on paper, the only flaw being one escape attempt too many (the pointless race to the island where she outswims his motorboat). The underwater shots looked beautiful as well.
One odd thing; i watched this on Amazon Prime, and at the beginning, there's a scene where she helps the guy jumpstart his car, and then she starts mocking him for his choice in music, asking why he'd like this cheesy song instead of better songs by the same band. I get the impression that when his car starts, his radio starts playing, and this "embarrassing" song is on... but there's no music in the scene. Did they really put in a minute long scene of them discussing a specific song, and then somehow not clear the rights to use the song when the movie streams? Was the scene this way in the theatre? So strange.

Odd about Prime not playing the song.
