Another Miami Vice movie in the works -- (D: Kosinski)

Joseph Kosinski is headed to Miami. The filmmaker behind the $1.49 billion hit Top Gun: Maverick is attached to direct a Miami Vice movie for Universal, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Nightcrawler filmmaker Dan Gilroy is penning the script, with The Batman producer Dylan Clark producing through Dylan Clark Productions, and Kosinski producing through Monolith.
Miami Vice began life as a TV series starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two undercover Miami police officers. Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell starred in a 2006 feature of the same name from Michael Mann. The feature grossed $163.7 million globally.
Kosinski has been kicking the tires on the project since last year, though Miami Vice will not be the next project he directs, with his busy schedule including a UFO conspiracy thriller that Apple won in a bidding war in March. He next has the Brad Pitt racing drama F1 due out in June.
Top Gun: Maverick turned Kosinski into one of the most in-demand filmmakers in town after directing features such as Oblivion and Tron: Legacy. He is repped by CAA, Untitled and Sloane Offer.
Gilroy, whose credits also include The Bourne Legacy and work on brother Tony Gilroy’s Andor, is repped by CAA, LBI, and Howard Abrahamson.
Clark, also known for Matt Reeves’ Planet of the Apes movies and Kosinski’s Oblivion, is represented by CAA and 42West.
So about 20 years later, they want to re-do it.
It's a shame the Michael Mann movie was a box office dud. Now that I look back years later, it was actually a pretty decent R-rated crime thriller.
With Kosinski at the helm, it will probably be very stylish. I guess Universal is banking on him with the success of Top Gun Maverick and the upcoming F1.
Here is my pick for Crockett and Tubbs
Glen Powell and Michael B. Jordan. 2 of the hottest names right now.

If it's not a sequel to the Michael Mann movie, how about a legacy sequel to the series with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas?

I was not a fan of the Michael Mann film so not much excitement for this one other than Kosinksi is involved.

If Kosinski sets it in the 80s with the TV shows aesthetic, I’ll watch it.
Of course, modern audiences would just assume it’s a GTA: Vice City movie.

No why?
I loved the TV series but thought the 2006 movie was extremely boring and a plot that was hard to follow.

You take out the flashy glitz and sun drenched color popping 80's with the music, clothes, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, MAC-10s, bags of coke and stubble Don Johnson in a white jacket shouting "You're busted pal!" and what's left?
I'd rather watch 80's Crocket and Tubbs accidentally step into a time machine and land in 2025

Miami Vice was more fun when it embraced it cheesiness but when it got serious in season 5 and they started wearing normal casual clothes and removed most of the music it was not the same show and not that fun either.

I thought the 2006 movie was a disappointment when I saw it in the theater, but, for me, it's a movie that seems to get better every time I rewatch it...the latest being earlier this month. Though I do still think Farrell is miscast. Movie Gina is a badass.
If they want to try again...eh...why not.

But Kosinski's strong visual aesthetic is a perfect fit here. Set it in the 80s and have an actual thriller of a plotline, shouldn't be difficult to make a banger.

Kosinski knows how to respect famous IPs, so I have confidence he will deliver something good. The Mann film underwhelmed me initially, but it grew on me with time.

Sigh, not another remake. Leave Miami Vice alone and think of an original idea for a change.

Since he has worked with Kosinski in the past, I would like to recommend Glenn Powell as Crockett. Maybe Damson Idris as Tubbs since he has also worked with the director. Powell and Michael B. Jordan would be great if they could get schedules to work.

Great ! Now all they need is a script and everything else! Get that release date above all...

Anticipated. Just because I love the newer movie so much. I never watched the show beyond the Phil Collins part.
If you’re watching the movie, the directors cut is a must. No idea why they downgraded some of those perfect moments for the theatrical release.

And here I was hoping for a Paul Feig remake with Melissa McCarthy as Sunny Crocket and Tiffany Haddish as Ricarda Tubbs.

I trust that Kosinski is going to cast the right people to play Crockett and Tubbs.
Miami Vice 2006 I thought was a decent cop thriller, but setting it in the 80s seems better suited. While he didn't do a terrible job, I thought Farrell might not have been the right choice to play Crockett in retrospect.
