I’ll watch the is.
Jackman’s singing voice is kind of similar to Neil Diamond’s.

Why didn't they just make a biopic about Neil Diamond? Are people gonna line up for a film about someone who sings covers?

No, a music biopic is a movie about the life of a well-known singer or musician.
This is a movie about a man who starts a career impersonating a well-known singer.
Which I am fine with, BTW. Music biopic tropes are so worn out now. Every music biopic reminds me of Walk Hard.

At the end of the day, music biopics and cover artists are people more or less playing make-believe regarding a musician to bring an entertainment experience to an audience

Early Access was this afternoon, but my screening was cancelled, so I guess my theater had trouble with setting up this one off showing. I still got the 45 vinyl-ish single featuring the leads singing Sweet Caroline. I'm going to the Screen Unseen tomorrow, reasonable chance that it will be this movie.

This was the Screen Unseen tonight. The first half of the movie was wonderful and joyous with lots of performances. Then once the accident happens, the movie became a chore to watch. The hospital scene was clumsy and frantic and quickly ended, missing emotional opportunities. The rest of the movie just seemed poorly written or edited or something, just didn't flow dramatically with her depression during her recovery.

So is this a good movie? Not especially. Most of the plot stuff feels dour and condensed to the point of being almost silly.
Still, it's also a movie with a lot of Neil Diamond songs. I enjoyed that a lot.

Not a perfect movie (a little too long), but I enjoyed it. Movies about people coming together to create something (a business, a band...) is one of my favorite genres. Kate Hudson gives terrific performance. No, it's not flashy, but she creates the impression of a real person, someone familiar to me.

As was said earlier, the first half is pure joy, then it takes a huge tone shift that's tough to watch. I was ok with it, though. If I just wanted to watch Neil Diamond songs, I'd watch a concert video. This was based on a story that actually happened. No, I didn't know what to expect going in, but it was a story for me to experience. If I get a craving for more Diamond songs in the future, I can make an informed choice now.
As for "why keep the bad stuff in the movie?", the filmmaker chose to keep those as part of the story, which I respect.

I liked it much more than I thought I would. Cheesy as hell but kind of wholesome, which felt ok to me right now.

I thought it would be kind of corny but it is not and they don't mock them for being impersonators.
Nice to see Michael Imperioli and a rare Jim Belushi appearance.
I never heard of the doc or never knew it existed until this movie came out.
It is cool the real life Claire is doing well and continuing to sing.

There's a house here in town that has had about half a dozen cars run into it. It sits at a T intersection and every so often somebody goes through the stop sign into front of the house.
