What makes you "hate watch" a movie?
From Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate-watching
What makes you "Hate watch" a movie and what are some of your most recent Hate Watch Movies? Maybe trying to find some humor in something so bad? Enlightenment? Validation for your hatred towards all parties involved in making a movie. A couple of my most recent Hate Re-watches thanks to my local library.
Ghostbusters 2016- Even if I was the most vocal critic of the movie here its greatest sin is that its painfully unfunny.
Rough Night - A gender flipped version of Very Bad Things and I would say the movie is harmless. It couldn't go to the same level of Dark Humor of Very Bad Things and If it did it would be even more Horrifying with an all female cast.
It Ends With Us- I just checked it out from the library and I guess I want to see what the fuss is about. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds may be awful people but I despise Justin Baldoni and his phony Male Feminist Persona.
I think this is worth a real discussion and that's one of the big problems with people still "Hate watch" any Disney made Star Wars products and nothing changes,

Hate-watching
is the activity of consuming media, usually a television show or a film with the intention of acquiring amusement from the mockery of its content or subject.[1] Closely related to anti-fan behaviours, viewers who partake in hate-watching derive pleasure and entertainment from a show's absurdities or failures.[2] The act of hate-watching is premised on the audience engaging with media through a satirical lens.[2] Driven by the rise of streaming platforms and social media, hate-watching is rooted in a set of psychological and social motivations and cannot entirely prevent excesses despite its harmless origin.

I don’t think I’ve ever hate watched a movie. I’ve seen some pretty bad stuff over the years but with everyone I had the intention of enjoying it.
I guess the closest would be something like Mystery Science Theater 3000 where I laughed along to others hate watching a movie.

You’ll probably get a response
“I don’t watch bad movies, I only watch good movies” from some here. I usually get that response whenever I’ve made a thread about “worst movies”.
If I think a movie sucks, I definitely won’t revisit it.
And I don’t watch a movie expecting to hate it. I think that’s a dumb way to consume entertainment.

I love so bad they're good movies, but there has to be the 'good' aspect. They have to be enjoyable. I've been tempted to rewatch movies that just really suck (Bryan Loves You was the last one I reviewed here) but I haven't got time for the pain.

I can't see me wasting my precious time on something I hate. Life is too short. There's already enough stuff I love that I don't have time to rewatch.
I'm not going to go out and by Kid Rock albums and listen to them over and over again for that same reason. If I'm going to spend my time listening to music, it's going to be something I like. I can't get that time back.
Sometimes I'll occasionally revisit something I didn't care for to see if I can get anything out of it after some time has passed. I did enjoy Wakanda Forever more the second time around when I watched it again the other day, but that movie still has a lot of problems. (Bad sound mix, bad lighting, unfocused story.

I like to get my ex-girlfriend, my neighbor, and my best friend together. We go out for Chinese. Then we all go to see "Plan 9 From Outer Space," and I make hilarious sarcastic comments about movie.

Re: What makes you "hate watch" a movie?
Isn't that more of a so-bad-it's-good situation?
There are number of demonstrably terrible movies that I love watching like Cobra or Maximum Overdrive. Hell, I'd love to see "grindhouse" cuts of movies like this where grime and scratches are added into them, and weird cuts and inserts are made. And it's not that I hate these movies, but they just capture something weird, anarchic, nostalgic, or over-the-top.
I mean, Maximum Overdrive is Stephen King coked out of his goddamned mind making a drive-in horror movie. And Cobra is Sylvester Stallone playing a rule-breaking cop taking on an army of nihilistic serial killers, like something that a fourteen year-old kid would come up with after hearing his older brother trying to tell him about Dirty Harry.

I hate read the FOX NEWS comment section on their website.
Cant say I’ve ever hate watched a movie. The Room is a terrible movie. But I love it. So is it really a bad movie after all?

Re: What makes you "hate watch" a movie?
Hate watching is a form of confirmation bias. You've already made up your mind the movie will suck, watch it to confirm you are right. You'll nitpick the bad stuff, ignore the good stuff, so the movie will suck yo you. You'll seek out opinions that agree with yours.
Normally you go in with an open mind. If you think it will be bad, and it is, you don't care. You're not trying to prove anything and can even discover you were wrong and enjoy the movie. That's not hate watching.
Hate watching is when you have some form of emotional attachment to the subject matter. Changes have been made you don't approve of, remake of a favorite movie, something you loved was ruined and you don't want to see it get good again.

Don't think I would hate watch a movie... If I don't want to see it or think I won't like it then there is plenty of other stuff I'm way behind on to watch.
Cobra and Maximum Overdrive are guilty pleasures of mine... in fact I'm due for a Cobra re-watch soon.

I love some movies that are considered bad by the masses, but I would never hate watch something. My time is more valuable than that.

I think the closest I've come to any "hate watching" is of remakes of absolutely perfect horror films that never needed to be remade. Rob Zombie's Halloween and Kimberly Peirce's Carrie immediately come to mind. Even so, I don't think I sat down and watched them as much as I just had them on in the background. In situations like that, I also make sure I'm only watching broadcast versions (on HBO or something), I do not pay money to see them at the theater or even get a Netflix rental, because I don't want my viewership tracked and interpreted as support of the movies.

Quentin Tarantino movies . . . I have finally come to appreciate them and enjoy a few of them. I realized I just have to suppress the parts I have issues with. I always admired his writing and dialogue, his eye for cinema, his ear for soundtracks, and his passion for the art form. I can live with the violent nature of his work, but I take issue with the cartoonish aspects.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre . . . I have probably watched this four or five times in my life. I still don't get why people like it. Again, I can appreciate what it was and how it was made . . . but nah, bro, just nah.
2001: A Space Odyssey . . . Same as TCM, probably watched it four or five times in my life. It wasn't until an IMAX screening a few years ago that I finally got it. I still didn't care for it, but I got it. I would love to see it remade and broken into a deep-conscious mini series. I know sacrilege. Whatever.
All other Kubrick . . . I haven't seen all of his work, but I do not understand the rabid fandom. His work is OK at best.
David Lynch . . . Panos Cosmatos . . . and any other of these "Fuck your movie, I make experiences." filmmakers. I will try periodically, but they don't click with me and usually end up pissing me off for wasting my time.
"Modern" Alien films (namely Ridley Scott's bullshit) . . . I honestly don't know why I go back to these. I like the characters . . . that's about it. I try periodically though, thinking maybe a new movie will add something that makes it make sense. Nope.
Then there are films that click with you as you age or move into new life experiences. The Godfather, many Clint Eastwood westerns, The Great Escape . . . all of these moved from my "didn't get it" to love status as I got older.

I think Joker Follie a Deuex counts as a hate watch to me. I knew I was likely going to hate it by I wanted to see the trainwreck for myself.

These things. There are a number of things I have revisited multiple times over the years because I just simply did not get why people liked them.

Well I'm about half an hour in watching "It Ends with Us". I can't figure out what the real story is except Blake Lively is trying to rebuild her life after the death of her Dad. Her being named Lily Rose is kind of funny when she's opening a flower shop. Baldoni was a creeper trying to sleep with her within minutes of meeting her.
