I've been curious about this. How do you guys become aware of new movies? Commercials? YouTube? Social media? or is this forum seriously your only source as you pay no attention otherwise?

I mean I see people complain all the time that they claim to have seen zero marketing on a certain movie. So I'm just curious. I understand if movie and entertainment news is not priority in your daily lives and you never seek it out and if that's the case, all good.

For me, I subscribe to all the major studio YouTube pages and when new trailers pop up, I do see them. And I do see trailers before the movies I see in the theaters.

I look for the threads that are started here, two years before the movies come out, and then I mark my calendar.

It's usually just a random ad on youtube or a banner ad on imdb.

Unlike previous eras, it's all a blur as to whether a film is made-for-streaming title or a theatrical title (or both). Ads on the internet may or may not reflect what is actually playing regionally in my area. With so many images and ads being constantly thrown at me, I tend to just tune-out things altogether.

This probably helps explain why I only own about 5 Blu-rays of films released in the last 6 years.

Mostly through social media and youtube. Gone are the days of getting entertainment news through magazines like Entertainment Weekly.

Trailers, commercials, Youtube, this site, and social media for the most part.

Sometimes just scrolling through streaming apps and being like "huh, never heard of that one, looks interesting."

I used to rely on newspaper advertising, but that's gone the way of the dinosaurs. So it's this forum or nothing.

I don’t follow studios on YouTube so I don’t go there unless I Want to see bullshit fan made trailers passing themselves off as real.

I am a movie guy. For many of my friends, I'm their movie guy. I am always and forever a movie guy.

But I no longer seek any of the movie stuff out. I just don't have it in me.

I stick to this forum and then I see trailers in the theater.

I'm sure some cinephile just did a spit take with their rhubarb microbrew.

But that's how I roll, these days.

I used to get info for new releases from this forum, but then dex disappeared and now I feel like a lost puppy.

Mostly YouTube and social media. Sometimes I catch trailers in the theater, but I don’t actively seek them out. If a movie gets a lot of buzz, I’ll probably hear about it from friends or forums like this.

He last posted over a month ago. I read he had a big work trip overseas this month, so maybe that's why he's taking a long break from here.

But, yes he was very good at keeping the Movie and TV forum on top of new content.

Luck or coincidence, mostly.

But even then, I tend to notice or be interested so far ahead of time that I forget in-between hearing and release.

I tape a lot of late night talk shows and usually a actor or actress appears and reveal their latest projects.

I also check the Thurs entertainment section in the East Bay Times and browse the Directv Cinema listings to see what smaller or lower profile movies that are out.

This forum and HTF. And both are quite random for me in that regard - basically rarely check and mostly don't really care.

Deadline, Forums, Social Media

Youtube for me since I haven't been to theater in years.

I check the "Just Added Category" at Hulu, Peacock, and HBO Max and "Worth the Wait" at Netflix.

I see the same trailers over and over and over again at AMC for months before the movie finally comes out.

For smaller movies that don't get trailers, I will check to see what is playing at my local theaters and gather just enough information to know if it is something I might want to see. Then I'll largely go in blind.

Previews, Social Media, Forums, I still get a newspaper Friday - Sunday mostly because of the entertainment section on Friday, so sometimes I see something there i didn't know. Also if it's a director I'm interested in (who may be a bit more obscure) I look at IMDB or other sites to see what they are working on.

Mostly trailers in front of the movies I'm seeing. Otherwise TikTok usually shows me when a new trailer drops for something.

I don't watch a speck of live TV anymore so I never see commercials and I only go to YouTube when I want to specifically watch something like a tutorial or a product review, so I don't see them there either.

This is a very good question.

I'm not sure what my answer is.
Seems that I just know by osmosis what movies are being made and when they come out.
Its likely a combination of here and HTF and just ads on tv
