The Assessment (2025, D: Fleur Fortuné) S: Olsen, Vikander, Patel
The Assessment follows Mia (Elizabeth Olsen) and Aaryan (Himesh Patel), a successful couple who hope to become parents in a near future where resources are extremely limited and the government keeps firm control over reproduction. They are assigned an assessor named Virginia (Alicia Vikander), who moves into their home for seven days to evaluate whether they deserve to move forward in their parenting journey.
"A must-see for those longing for thoughtful science-fiction storytelling."
"All of it is so breathtaking and fascinating. I'm so glad there's still excellent innovative indie sci-fi being made."
"Not everything about The Assessment works, but at its best it is oppressively, and impressively, tense."

This movie was wild. Starts off with a cool sci-fi premise, then immediately goes off the rails in an interesting way on the assessor's first day. Unfortunately, the ending fell flat, so the movie was more about the ride than the final message.

I can't recommend this movie enough. Vikander was great. It's a fantastic rental. I mean it's really good.

I liked it and picked it over Wicked which was leaving Peacock on July 20 but too long.
Maybe one of the characters deserved
Vikander gave a Oscar worthy performance.

I watched this on Hulu last night. I'm surprised I haven't heard more about this movie, and that there's hardly any discussion of it here. It's a well made, thoughtful work of speculative fiction.
Copying my comments from the "Last Movie You Watched" thread:
I hope more people see this.

It's the feature-length debut of the director (Fleur Fortuné) and it's a promising start.
