Talk to Me gets better every time I watch it. Really looking forward to this followup.

Seeing this one a big screen was great and even more creepy! I liked Talk to Me so I'm hoping they learned from that one and are coming back even more wild.

I love Talk To Me, the most genuinely chilling movie I've seen in years (and on the very short list of modern horror movies with a great ending). I try not to get my hopes up about movies, but I will be rushing the the theatre as soon as this comes out.

"Sally Hawkins" sounds like a character in a Puritan ghost story.

This is apparently the "Scream Unseen" movie for AMC theaters tonight ($6 for us lowly non-A listers), had tickets already so guess we will see.

I saw this at an AMC last Thursday. Enjoyable. Liked it better than Talk to Me, which I think I need to revisit, I don't think I gave it my full attention on first viewing.
I wouldn't mind a rewatch, because the grainy VHS footage sprinkled throughout the movie explains the process the villain is attempting, but isn't exactly clear about it. I think some of it would make more sense on a second go-around.

Talk to Me was more fun but this was a more complete, better made movie. I think it traumatized my sister a bit
Edit: Yep. Hour later still talking about scenes she watched through her uh arm.

This was sufficiently gross.

Large crowd tonight at my Scream Unseen showing, and it seems like everyone stuck with it and enjoyed it even though it was pretty grotesque in the A24 kind of way, especially with the little boy's behavior. Became a little more straightforward storyline towards the ending which made it a little easier to watch and follow.

Saw this last Monday as a part of Regal's Mystery Movie Monday.
Although I was fairly lukewarm on the Philippou Brothers' Talk To Me (2022), I enjoyed this film quite a bit more.
It's anchored by fantastic performances from Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt, Sora Wong & Jonah Wren Philips.
Aaron McLisky's cinematography is also a large part of what makes the film click.
The script is a bit wobbly at some points but I'm looking forward to re-visiting this film during its actual release.

This was nuts, gory, brutal. The fucked up shit some people do because of grief. I'm now locked in to the Philippou brothers and this is so much more polished and mature than Talk to Me (and I did like that one). Their growth on their second feature is stunning. A special feature of just the VHS tape would be nice because that tape was bonkers. The entire cast was perfect. Sally taps into a character that is completely unhinged but makes you actually feel sad for her even after all the brutality she commits. It's a crazy thing the brothers did on their audience. I think A24 just needs to keep letting these guys have free reign because they are bringing it.

Huh. I've seen a few people mention how much more mature and polished Bring Her Back is, compared with Talk to Me, but I'm not convinced. Admittedly, I've seen Talk to Me multiple times and Bring Her Back only once, but Talk to Me feels to me (surprisingly) more assured and tight and subtextually interesting. And that's from someone who DID enjoy Bring Her Back. But it's Talk to Me that I feel like I'll return to more often. That movie was electrifying, whereas this one is horrifying and relentless but lacking the same spark. IMO.

This is the first movie of 2025 I love. I love the horror genre, but am disappointed how the majority of them fall into either the horror-comedy or horror-action subgenre with characters who are only like characters in a movie, not real people. Bring Her Back is one of those rare horror dramas. And effective. I'm such a cynic, I never root for a happy ending, but I felt so terrible during this wanting the brother to save them both and knowing in the bottom of my stomach it wasn't going to be that kind of movie.
Funny, I didn't have that reaction. I thought she was one of the most hateful movie characters I've seen in a long time. Sadly, I have people in my life who've lost children, and for whatever fucked up things they've done since, the one thing that seems to have expanded is their sense of empathy. To see the same sorrow they've suffered inflicted on others is the only thing they have left to fear. The mother in Bring Her Back is consumed by entitlement and narcissism. One really disturbing moment was when the brother punches the wall, and she immediately drops to the floor, crying, pretending to be afraid, pretending to be the real victim. I wonder how many times she's done that in her life.
Talk To Me has the added jolt of coming out of nowhere. I think Bring Her Back is a better movie overall (there's not a single weak scene where as Talk To Me has a couple lags), but agree that it's best scenes don't compare to Talk To Me's best scenes.
And agree about how authentic the video tape looked. One of my biggest peeve with movies are when they present home-movies/surveillance footage/news footage that doesn't come close to matching the look of authentic footage because the cinematographer isn't clever enough to know how to film like an unprofessional.
