Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

Question is in the title. Do you purchase these collectible popcorn buckets for big movies that come out?

For example, this weekend the Captain America popcorn bucket is this. It will likely sell out too. Or do you see no point in them and they're a waste of money in your book?

Deadpool and Wolverine had 2 popcorn buckets that literally sold out within 2 days of the movie premiering.

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

I have a few of the head shaped ones. They display well enough on the top of bookshelves. My first was the Ghostface bucket when Scream VI was released. Later, I got Pennywise and Santa Art the Clown - but the novelty is starting to wear off. They take up way too much space for me to continue collecting them. I like the idea of having theater exclusive merch, but I won't deny it creates a FOMO situation that influenced my buying decisions. If the same cheap plastic heads were at Spirit Halloween, I'm sure I would have balked at the price and passed on getting them.

While I loathe Ryan Reynolds, I did end up ordering the Headpool and Babypool buckets because the designs were so unique.

I'm all for buying concessions to help support movie theaters but I have no desire to buy the Popcorn buckets. It's too expensive and a waste of money.

No.

No I do not.

I don't understand why people would, but to each their own.

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

I won't say they're a waste of money because that's a subjective thing. Well...I guess objectively it's a waste of money but I won't judge. But I don't get them because of a space issue more than a money issue. I did enjoy taking a picture with the DP/Wolv bucket at the theater that someone let me hold.

But....I'm a sucker for the Disney popcorn buckets. Especially the figment ones.

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

I'll go with once in a while for two reasons:

1. I bought the Claptrap bucket last year and it's awesome. I bought a Star Wars: Rogue One tin bucket at an independent theater when that came out, too.

2. We've bought the AMC Refill bucket every year since at least 2018. It's always been worth it. Only available at AMC Classic Theaters (only 1 left in our area and even that is nearly a 90-minute round-trip drive!) but usable at all AMC Theaters, they're $25 with a fill of popcorn (cheaper, if you're an AMC A-List member, which we are). The lid is $2, but last time I chatted up the person at the counter for a while and just when I was about to leave I said, oh, I meant to buy the lid, too. She gave it to me for free. Score!

The refills have creeped up from $4.99 but they're still under $6 amd worth it. When all 4 of us go to the movies together, we buy a refill with that year's bucket, pour most of it into last year's bucket, then immediately go back and ask them to top us off. No one has stopped us, works great.

Some of those collectible buckets are cool, but I just don't have the space for all of those.

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

My new local theater doesn’t sell them but I haven’t seen any Im that interested in even if they were available. They had a pretty cool echo 1 but if i wanted an ecto 1 i feel like i could get a better one for the same price even figuring in the popcorn.

For a couple years around 2018-2019 I collected the regular metal popcorn tins for movies that were around before the current fad of having them shaped like something related to the film. From what I remember they were the same price as getting a large popcorn combo. Maybe a dollar or two more but not the cost of the new fangled ones. Have about a dozen on the tins that I still use for popcorn and other things regularly.

What?? Refill bucket? You can use them at other AMC theaters? Do you actually need a ticket to get in to just purchase a refill bucket?

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

I don't eat popcorn at the theaters and rarely at home. Plus the last thing I need is some movie trinket collecting dust in my place. That's what blu/4K discs are for!

I don't get the point in getting them, but I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys collecting them.

I love popcorn and some of them look pretty cool, but no, I've never bought one. I'm at the point in my life where I want to get rid of that kind of stuff, not accumulate more of it.

No, but I go to the theater maybe once a year at this point and never buy concessions at all.

There have been a few I would have bought, but my nearest AMC is 90 mins away. Just not worth it.

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

I don’t collect them but there’s a small part of me that thinks it would be kind of neat to have a shelf in my movie room with various popcorn buckets lined up on it.

I should be flipping these babies on eBay, since they're not everywhere. Yes, indeed, AMC has an annual reusable popcorn bucket.

Marcus Theaters/Movie Tavern has those buckets too. One of my friends has one as they love popcorn... so it's a good deal.

One of my relatives lives within walking distance to a local, non-AMC theater. She'll send one of the kids in to refill their bucket when they have movie night at home.
I wouldn't be surprised if most theaters would do the same. They make money on concessions and $5.99 is still profitable for them.

I joined Marcus Movie Club for the 20% discount on concessions, and thought about getting the refillable bucket, but I normally get at least one free refill, so the bucket + 2 refiis is more than just buying a large popcorn and getting a free refill.

No, but that working batsignal one a few months ago was cool as hell (and was really surprised it was only $35)

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

For movies, no, unless the kids really really want one. They're just too expensive.

But we went to Universal and I saw this:

And bought it. Came with "free" popcorn refills for the rest of the day. It's actually terrible at holding popcorn (the cavity is only in the body and it's hard to clean) but it has light up eyes and a button that opens the mouth where a "laser" light is. That actually sealed the deal for me, I couldn't open the mouth at all until the guy showed me the button and then my eyes lit up like a little kid or, well, like this popcorn bucket.

Oh I guess I did purchase a second popcorn bucket: Haro from Mobile Suit Gundam, at the Yokohama Gundam Base:

I love Figment too. One of my favorite stuffed animals as a kid in the 80s was my Figment stuffed animal that I got at Epcot when I was about 6 or 7. I'm not really much of a fan of Disney or Disney characters in general, but Figment is an exception!

Re: Do you purchase collectible popcorn buckets?

After looking at some of these pictures of popcorn buckets, I think I’d be more likely to collect them if they weren’t so elaborately goofy. I’d prefer they were just regular shaped popcorn buckets with a specific movie’s theme. Similar to the Top Gun: Maverick popcorn bucket.

Maybe I’m just an old fuddy duddy but sometimes less is more.
