EXCLUSIVE: Martin McDonagh is returning to the studio of his two Oscar winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Searchlight, for his next movie Wild Horse Nine. John Malkovich and Mark Ruffalo have boarded. They join Sam Rockwell who has already been attached to the project. Logline is under lock and key.

Deadline first told you about the project which was untitled back in 2021.

Cameras roll in March 2025 in Rapa Nui, the indigenous name for Easter Island, a protected Chilean wildlife area known for its unrivalled cultural landscape. Easter Island, the most remote inhabited island on Earth, lies 3,700 kilometres off the coast of mainland Chile. The Rapa Nui National Park continues to maintain a high degree of authenticity, having had minimal intervention since the area’s near abandonment in the late 19th Century.

For Ruffalo and Malkovich, it’s the first time they’ve worked with McDonagh on the big screen. For Rockwell it’s his third teaming with the Oscar winning McDonagh. McDonagh won an Oscar for the 2006 short live action title Six Shooter. Christopher Walken and Oscar Isaac were previously circling McDonagh’s latest and that’s no longer the case, we hear.

Blueprint Pictures and Film4 are producing Wild Horse Nine. SVP of Production Taylor Friedman and Director of Development and Production Peter Spencer are overseeing the project for Searchlight Pictures, reporting to Heads of Production and Development Katie Goodson-Thomas and DanTram Nguyen.

Producers on the McDonagh written and directed Wild Horse Nine are Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin and Anita Overland.

Ahead of her highly-anticipated visit to “The White Lotus,” Parker Posey has signed on to star in Martin McDonagh‘s next film, “Wild Horse Nine.”

Posey joins previously announced star Sam Rockwell, who won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his most recent collaboration with McDonagh, 2017’s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” John Malkovich and Mark Ruffalo are also among the cast.
