Jennifer Connelly appreciation thread
I have no idea how Jennifer Connelly didn't hit my radar back in the 90s but I have recently come to appreciate her beauty and acting career. I did a quick search and was surprised, while her name comes up a lot, she does not seem to have a thread of her own to discuss her films. So what are your favorite films featuring the lovely Jennifer Connelly? I first really noticed her oddly enough in a fan-made Flock of Seagulls video with footage from Career Opportunities and was a little surprised to have watched her in so many films (Beautiful Mind, Pollack, Blood Diamonds not to mention Requiem for a Dream.
and I honestly had not seen Labarynth until quite recently.

My favorite roles of hers are in Shelter, House Of Sand and Fog and Little Children. But she's been in a lot of movies I love like Rocketeer, Dark City, Etoile. She's been great in everything I've seen her in even if the movie isn't the best like Hulk she was the best part.

I didn't know that was a fan made video! She is great in whatever she does. Soft spot for Dario Argento's Phenomena, and Hulk.

Looking over her filmography, I'm struck by three things:
1. She's made far fewer films than I thought.
2. I've seen far fewer of her films than I thought.
3. She's excellent in every film of hers I've seen.
Jennifer Connelly is excellent in Noah. In a big movie about a lot of stuff that doesn't focus on her, she is wonderfully cast and holds her own with Russell Crowe, including in some later, highly-dramatic scenes.

I was just a young pup when I saw The Rocketeer and had a pretty big crush on Jennifer Connelly. I think she's an excellent actress and is one of the more naturally beautiful women in Hollywood IMO. When watching Dark Matter recently, I commented to my wife that Jennifer Connelly thankfully hasn't puffed her face up with bad plastic surgery like many actresses her age. If she's had work done, it's been subtle.

I used to work at Universal Studios Florida between 1991-92, and in the employee cafeteria they had a bunch of movie posters for Universal films hanging on the wall. Once day I noticed this poster hanging up:

I'd never heard of the girl or the film, but instantly fell in love with her. As soon as it was available on video, I rented it, and she was as great as I'd hoped she would be. I then made it my mission to check out any film she had done (not as easy to do pre-internet!). She became my favorite actress but back then most people never heard of her. In 1993 I was visiting LA and one movie memorbilia shop was selling a bunch of stills, and I asked if they had any with Jennifer Connelly. The clerk took a look and found exactly one (that's how obscure she was then) and of course I bought it (and still have it!). Still a big fan.

Gee, I wonder why. Insanely beautiful, part of two of perhaps the most underrated but beloved genre films in her youth, a great actress, and both Career Opportunities and Private School were on USA (or some network or another) when we were younger. If only Phoebe Cates had a longer/more prolific career...

I haven't watched the final season of it yet, but she had far and away the most interesting role in season one of Snowpiercer, and the show was lessor for her role being diminished in subsequent seasons.
I'll also mention her debut role in Once Upon a Time in America. She was striking even as a little girl.

Even though it was a pretty thankless love interest part, I thought she looked great in Top Gun Maverick. She looked very beautiful and mature.

Jennifer Connelly is one of those women who got more attractive with age, but at one point she got to skinny for my taste. As an actress she's great, her best roles, not necessarily my favorite movies she's in, are House of Sand and Fog and Little Children. She's also fantastic in Requiem for a Drea, Blood Diamond, A Beautiful Mind and Shelter.
She's has been in some stinkers as well. Hulk, Inkheart, Dark Water, In the Heart of Justice or The Hot Spot weren't movies I would recommend or watch again.

An incredibly beautiful woman, and a great actress.
Career Opportunities is a favourite for her 'horse' and roller-skating scenes, and The Hot Spot for obvious reasons, but my favourite film with her is probably Some Girls. Probably not known by most, here, but it stars her, and a young Patrick Dempsey. A funny and touching film that I find underrated, at least on IMDB.

I think part of my surprise in 'discovering her' is that she is only a month or so younger than me and almost exactly my height. So she is and was age-appropriate for her career. LOL Too bad she is married to Vision.
