Welcome to the 16th annual DVDTalk Best Picture Oscar Poll!

Once again let's see how far apart we are from the Oscar voters (Although lately we've been in line with them). Keep in mind that this is a poll for our favorite movies and not an attempt to predict the actual Oscar winner.

I will keep this poll open for a year since most of us are only streaming these days.

I like to see all of the nominees, so I’m not ready to vote yet. I think this is a fairly strong list of movies. Let the debate begin!

Dune: Part Two??? come on...

Hoping for The Substance to win all the categories it is nominated in. I also think that Margaret Qualley should have been nominated for actress or supporting actress. The only prediction I will make is that Mikey Madison will win Best Actress.

Hopefully when they show clips from Dune 2 the audience and those at home don't slip into comas from boredom.

I also hope that Timothe Whatshisname doesn't win for his Bob Dylan imitation.

This is probably the first year ever I haven't seen any of the best picture nominees before the awards.

I've seen all but one (I'm Still Here) and The Substance was easily my favorite, though may not be the "best" film.

TBD: I’m Still Here

I’ve got some catching up to do. I’ve only seen one of the BP nominees so far (Dune 2). It was good but I wouldn’t consider it the best picture of the year.

I know Conclave is available in Peacock so I’ll give that a watch soon but the rest of these haven’t hit streaming yet, have they?

Subscription based streaming - Emilia Perez is on Netflix, The Substance is on Mubi (and Dune on Max and Netflix).
Some others are on VOD or PVOD.

I’ve only seen two out of ten, so have some catching up to do, but I had little interest in some of these.

The Substance is the only movie I saw so far and it was entertaining but not a best picture winner.

I've only seen 5 of 10, so I'll hold off for now. I was going to see Nickel Boys this past week, but I was sick. Hopefully I can catch it before it disappears from theaters. Going to see the Brutalist in IMAX next week. I could watch Emilia Perez as soon as I finish typing this, but ew.

I can’t recall a movie that seems to have less love “IRL” vs critics than Emilia Perez since “Crash”.

usually letterbox scores are a bell curve of some kind, but not here!

It's not even that loved critically. It has a metacritic score of 71, which is tied with A Complete Unknown as the lowest of all the nominees. And I don't think anyone thinks A Complete Unknown is anything special outside of the performances.

But I haven't seen it yet, so I guess I'll hold final judgement until I do.

I just saw Anora, on Monday and also saw Wicked and Dune Part Two when they came out among with contenders.

I really liked Anora, despite some annoying characters. But, Dune Part Two was my favorite. I liked Wicked, but didn't love it. I only saw it once when it came out week 1.

I have Peacock, so I'll try to watch Conclave next. Not sure when I'll be able to see The Brutalist. I do want to see that in the theater. But, it's tough to make time for it.

Emilia Perez screams "hits all the hallmarks of the Academy being able to pay itself on the back while avoiding making itself uncomfortable with a more raw depiction of the issue". Compare it to I Saw the TV Glow, which is a very upsetting, emotional take on the trans experience

Thanks for the link to the free Mubi trial. I signed up at least to give The Substance a watch.

These kinds of absurd examples need to be made the face of this movement, and I'm so glad Emilia is the face of it this year. I'm rooting for it to win all of the awards!

Of the 3 nominees I’ve seen I’d vote for Wicked. Old timey musical wonderment don’t well.
