The Gorge (2025, D: Derrickson) S: Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy

The world's most dangerous secret lies between them.

Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy star in The Gorge— premiering February 14 on Apple TV+

Two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.

An Apple Original Film, “The Gorge” is directed by Scott Derrikson and written by Zach Dean. Hailing from Skydance Media, “The Gorge” is produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger for Skydance, alongside Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Sherryl Clark through Crooked Highway as well as Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean and Gregory Goodman. Miles Teller executive produces.

The chess scenes remind me of Dawn of the Dead. I really liked The Black Phone so I'll give this a shot.

Not a great movie, but I was entertained from beginning to end. I liked the Queen's Gambit and Whiplash homage. Teller and Taylor-Joy had great chemistry and they clearly had fun making the movie.

I thought it was very entertaining. Only criticism is that it was more interesting before the last third. I thought the first 2/3 were spectacular and really quite original.

Let's put the mines right next to the barriers keeping the creatures out. Brilliant!

So of all the free flicks on these streaming services, that was probably in the top tier of them. Was a fun watch.

Re: The Gorge (2025, D: Derrickson) S: Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy

I went in to this knowing virtually nothing about it aside from that it was about two people stationed on opposite sides of a mysterious gorge. I have to admit I enjoyed the hell out of it! I don’t know what I was expecting in the gorge but it wasn’t that.

There was some dodgy CGI and some plot points don’t hold up to much scrutiny but it was a great thrill ride. This movie also hinges 100% on the chemistry between Taylor-Joy and Teller and luckily they had great chemistry together.

Anya Taylor-Joy is also insanely sexy with dark hair. I’ve never found her very attractive until this movie. She looked great!

Watching the credits now, this was a pleasant surprise. A nice kind-of creature feature action drama. The chemistry between the two leads was indeed fantastic and carried the movie.

Re: The Gorge (2025, D: Derrickson) S: Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy

Watched last night and it was really great. No idea what to expect in the Gorge and the film sure delivered. The two leads really carry the movie. Taylor-Joy was hot as hell.

I would have much preferred to see this on the big screen this weekend and Captain America on D+ !!! This is by far the better of the two films for me.

Technical note... audio track was really low on this. I had to turn the volume up about 2x normal.

Re: The Gorge (2025, D: Derrickson) S: Miles Teller, Anya Taylor-Joy

Let me ask this as someone who likes both the leads and enjoys some good Lovecraftian horror. Does this movie deliver in terms of the horror and creature aspect, or do the creatures just wind up being just another bunch of generic CG images that could have been placed in any random sci-fi flick? I know this movie is primarily about the characters, but even when that is the case, I would like to see some convincing creature FX work. The original Jaws and Godzilla Minus One are what I consider great examples of how to do both.

For creature design, think more along the lines of
Spoiler:
some of the latter Pirates of the Caribbean movies

There are two very distinct halves to this movie.
Spoiler:
The first half is the setting up of characters and developing their relationship. The second half borders on a horror movie with a horror movie setting and creatures

Glad I wasn't the only one. I usually watch stuff with the setting on my receiver at 65-70. I had to crank this to 80.

I may give it a shot in that case. Seems similar to Jaws where the first half is about a shark terrorizing a community, and then shifts gears to a story of three men tracking said shark .

Enjoyed the first half a good bit. 2nd half was more of a chore and kind of felt like a Syfy Channel movie. Would have been better if they cut maybe 20 minutes from the 2nd half, IMO.

I think this one would have been better if the creatures were left as more of a mystery.
