Nicko McBrain Retires from Touring with Iron Maiden
He will remain a part of Iron Maiden, but not on the Road. They have already picked a new drummer and will announce who soon.

Glad a got see em a few times. They always put on a great show. Even the one where they kept ripping on Milwaukee while playing in Milwaukee.

At his best, Nicko was one of the elite Rock drummers. His high energy style was built on finesse and sophistication. He almost had a swing to his playing, something that most other Metal drummers completely lacked.
He was a special talent, and a great personality.
And props to him for knowing when to say when. He made his comeback after his stroke and a ton of physical rehab, and now it's time to retire since he's only about 80% recovered (and that seems to be his ceiling). I'm glad he got a chance to go out there on a final tour after making that comeback. This is how musicians should retire - when they recognize major deficiencies in their playing (and Nicko has said he can't play 16th notes anymore), just retire rather than pulling a Paul Stanley or David Coverdale and continuing to tour even though their abilities are shot.

Glad I was able to see them one last time as a complete band couple years ago.
I've seen Maiden 5 times and every time was amazing.
Mico is an amazing drummer. Guys like him and Vinny Appice aren't in abundance.

Understandable, but sad.
It sucks getting old.
I'm kind of at that point where I can't do all of the things I did twenty or thirty years ago, and I'm constantly reminded that I'm not a teenager whenever I look in the mirror and see my hair thinning and graying. Or all of those little aches and pains that creep up on me, or finding myself falling asleep in front of the tv. And I dread what the next twenty or thirty will do to me.

Back in the day, I thought nicko was playing with double bass drums. It turns out he was only playing with one bass drum, without using a trick "double pedal".

Just saw him recently and although he was still good, he wasn't the same as before the stroke. He obviously played some fills differently and even skipped some completely. Nice to see him go out on his own terms and still be part of the Maiden machine. Simon Dawson will do fine as the new drummer and he's already used to locking in with Steve Harris.
