Movies you like but are tired of
It always seems with the holidays there are the classics that get played. Some seemingly are played to death and I’m over seeing them.
Stuff like Home Alone, Home Alone 2, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, etc. All good movies and ones that I like, but I could go a few years or more without watching them.
Not sure if there’s a thread like this but I couldn’t find it. This thread applies to regular non-holiday themed movies as well.

"24HR of a Christmas Story" definitely did me in with that movie. Although I haven't watched it in some years.
I feel like just generally I'm increasingly seeking out novelty in what I watch, rather than going back to things I enjoy.

I have a good dozen or so (including Christmas Vacation and the first Home Alone) that I watch every year.

I tend to lose patience with some oft-seen films over the decades. Of the James Bond films, those would be GOLDFINGER and THUNDERBALL. Of Hitchcock's films, they'd be VERTIGO and NORTH BY NORTHWEST, whereas other Bond and Hitchcock films I never get tired of. One other I've completely lost patience with is PLANET OF THE APES (1968).
Some I just think I've seen too many times by now, e.g. THE WILD BUNCH (at least 30X). I took a break from KILL BILL, VOL. 1 after 10-15 viewings. Not sure when I'll try it again.

Dazed and Confused, the original Star Wars trilogy, and Ghostbusters are the first ones that pop to mind. Love them all but unless I’m showing them to someone else for the first time I won’t watch any of them for another 20 years or more.

After 30 years of watching every year on Thanksgiving (and whenever its randomly on Pluto), I'm finally growing tired of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Never thought I'd say that.

I love it but I don’t watch it every year to avoid tiring of it. It’s an every other year watch for me at this point.

I only watch movies when I want to watch them so not sure how I would get tired of them. Maybe if I had kids that were watching the same movie over and over but thankfully I don't have that issue.

I literally just watched this for the first time ever. It was pretty funny and a classic but I can see how it would get tiresome year after year. Side note. Steve Martin looks great in this film.

For me at least some of the examples I listed are ones that just tend to play a lot and that I don’t always necessarily seek out. For instance if I go to visit my parents, in-laws, or friends and they have the movies I listed playing.

Some of my childhood favorites I've just burnt out on - OG Star Wars trilogy, The Goonies, Ferris Bueller, etc. I have watched them with my kids but I don't know if I'll ever put them on again on my own.
Ghostbusters remains my favorite movie of all time but I keep that rewatch sporadic enough to not tire of it.
I don't really watch holiday movies around the holidays - I'm the kind of person who'll throw on Christmas Vacation in July. Though I've seen A Christmas Story enough to never watch that one again either. That doesn't stop my wife and I from saying "Randy lay there like a slug...it was his only defense" anytime we can.

As far as annual Christmas movies, I used to have the yearly rotation of Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Home Alone, and A Christmas Story. I haven’t felt like watching any of those in a long time. My new rotation consists of the Benedict Cumberbatch version of The Grinch, The original animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Charlie Brown Christmas. That’s it.

Yeah I'm never in a situation where a movie is just playing at my house or when I go somewhere else. Maybe when I was a kid but I don't know anyone who has had cable in 10+ years or visited someone where movies are just looping at their house. Crazy that it is happening for you enough to tire out of a movie.

I wasn't trying to be condescending so sorry if it came out that way. Just trying to wrap my brain around walking into peoples houses and them happening to be playing a movie I've already seen a bunch of times and am tired of. Seems like a low probability and happens to you often enough so I was wondering if maybe your family/friends are pranking you?

It was just an example of something that’s happened. Not saying those are the only occurrences or super regular. The point of the thread is more in general about seeing a movie too many times and being tired of it.

I wait 4 or 5 or maybe longer to revisit the ones I loved so I never get tired of them and some scenes bI forgot until I watched them again.

I got so burned out on A Christmas Story during my high school years, that I probably haven't seen it in 20 years. Was it TNT that ran it non-stop on Christmas Eve? Do they still do that?

I didn't really watch A Christmas Story until the last year or two just a few clips... no burnout for me.
