Untitled Jumanji sequel (2026)

Jumanji 3 is happening on Dec. 11, 2026, Sony has just announced. That’s the same pre-Christmas slot that Sony has launched the entire Jumanji franchise. The movie will have full command of Imax and PLF screens that weekend.

Director Jake Kasdan and star posse Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are expected to return and in talks.

Nothing else is dated on Dec. 11, 2026, but Jumanji 3 opens one week before Disney’s untitled Star Wars movie and Warner Bros/Legendary’s supposed release of Dune 3 on Dec. 18.

The original Jumanji came out in 1995 with Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst starring grossing $262.8M worldwide; a hit back in the day. The movie followed a group of kids who unleash a safari game into the reality of their home town. The original movie was shot in Keene, NH.

But then Kasdan and Johnson had a way in to reboot the entire franchise and that entailed a bunch of kids getting stuck in a videogame with alternative version avatars from who they are in real life. 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle went on to gross $962.5M at the global box office followed by 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level doing another $801.6M. The entire trilogy counts over $2.02 billion around the globe.

Kasdan and Johnson are reteaming this month on the $200M Amazon MGM Studios Christmas feature, Red One, which also stars Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons and Kiernan Shipka. The movie, opening on Nov. 15, follows the rescue of Santa Claus (Simmons) by his head of security (Johnson) and a notorious bounty hunter (Evans).

Far enough out for Karen to give birth, have some time with her first kid and then get back into filming shape. I think she's due to give birth pretty soon.

A little surprised they greenlit another movie. The last movie didn’t make as much financially and it felt like the series was done.

Re: Untitled Jumanji sequel (2026)

It's box office got cut short by the pandemic. While it came out on December 13, 2019, my family didn't see it until February 17, 2020, and it was still in the theaters when pandemic shut things down in March. A worldwide gross of $800+ million is not far below Welcome to the Jungle's $960+ million worldwide gross.

That is why this film getting off the ground was delayed too:

Yeah, huge drop off in quality between the awesome first film and the second one. Dunno about this.

Personally like the second just as much as the first. These are the only live action films my daughter has asked to watch more than once.

This thread is kind-of weird, I never expected folks like Djariya to take a dig at the 2nd (technically 3rd) Jumanji films box office take. Some high bars to clear with folks here if a movie that makes 800 million does not impress you that much (thank you Shania Twain), lol!!

Anyway, yes...the 2nd film, Welcome To The Jungle is the best of the trilogy, but the third film was still an easy watch. It really helps that everyone who is part of the core cast came back for The Next Level, and seemed to check their egos at the door and just have fun with these films.

I absolutely think another Jumanji film could be a lot of fun to watch. Anyway, assuming no filming delays it will be late 2026 before we get to see the film so there is plenty of time for for Sony to get everyone hyped for another film.

yes, $800M is still a lot. But, I was more trying to say I thought the series was done since we have heard nothing since The Next Level wrapped its theatrical run. Of course the main reason for the long delay was the COVID pandemic.

But it had an open ending with Lemorne Morris possibly having entered the game

I think when the Rock's schedule was able to free up, they were able to figure it out.

I've enjoyed the entire trilogy thus far. Yes, The Next Level was the weakest entry but nonetheless entertaining. I am down for a part 4.

I’ve liked all of them so far. I’m down for another.

Maybe the cliffhanger to this next one could be that they end up in Zathura.

New ‘Jumanji’ Movie to Begin Shooting in November, Brittany O’Grady Joins Returning Cast (Exclusive)

Jumanji is back in game play mode as Sony’s latest sequel of its hit franchise heads toward a November start of production in Los Angeles.

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are returning to star in the feature, which will once again be directed by Jake Kasdan.

One new face in the feature will be Brittany O’Grady, who may be best known for co-starring in the first season of Mike White’s HBO series, The White Lotus.

Burn Gorman, who has appeared in movies such as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is another new face on the roll call.

Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Kasdan are producing the project, which has been in development under the radar until getting a greenlight and then hitting sprint mode to production.

Plot details are being kept in the console, but it is known that Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg wrote the script.

Even though The Smashing Machine wasn't made to break box office records I bet after this last weekend Dwayne Johnson can't start production on Jumanji 4 fast enough.

LOL! I was just about to post that. Fast series up in the air (he did agree to come back), Smashing Machine did not do well, and wrestling fans extremely upset with him and TKO. He needs this one badly.

Re: Untitled Jumanji sequel (2026)

I generally don't care for Dwayne Johnson movies but the series has been fun so I'd be down.
