Come on DVD Talkers, I need a few reviews from a couple of you to let me know whether I wanna sit through this and I am not an Angelina Jolie fan at all. But it does look pretty good.
I’m really hoping that Decker has some time to see it before Christmas because I generally agree with him on most movie things.

I’m mixed. While I’m a fan of musical theatre and classical music, I’ve attended fewer than a dozen operas in my lifetime. I’m quite familiar with the genre’s “greatest hits,” but Maria Callas is just a name to me, and I wouldn’t be able to name an opera singer just by hearing a voice (Pavarotti maybe).
So I had more than a passing interest in learning more about Callas, and this movie did that for me. However, it didn’t play many of the “greatest hits,” nor did it introduce me to tunes that I’d want to throw onto a playlist. I also couldn’t stop seeing her as Angelina Jolie, and I’m not much of a fan, though I realize not everyone would take on the role of a generations-ago opera singer, and this very well could’ve been a passion project for her.
In one scene, Callas is watching Marilyn Monroe singing the happy birthday song, and someone told her that people don’t care about Marilyn’s voice just as they don’t care about Callas’ body, which in Jolie’s case made me snicker.
Glad I watched it but wouldn’t say I enjoyed it and likely won’t watch it again.
