I love John Williams. I’ve heard various stories over the years of his music, some of which look like they’re rehashed in this documentary but I’ll definitely check it out.

I can talk a lot of shit about modern day Disney but these D+ exclusive documentaries are always good. I'll make sure to watch it next time I have D+.

I thought that was a list of featured interviewees in the OP but it's a list of producers!

I really hope that they would include the entirety of his works. I know it was a totally different situation but during the D23 tribute to John Williams they only played Disney properties. What kind of a tribute is that? And Disney has a habit of wanting to create synergy. I mean I know that they feature other movies in the trailer but I hope that Disney didn't somehow influence the documentary to shine more of a light on the Disney properties than others.

After watching the documentary, I realized I'm not old enough to have known what John Williams looked like before his white hair / white beard.

Pretty much the best music guy ever for movies. Nothing else to see here.

I liked the film. I didn’t know about all his jazz/session work, and of course the music is great. I thought they were going to punt Harry Potter, but then they did a short segment on it.

Does the film highlight Brian De Palma's THE FURY (1978) at all? That's my favorite score of his.

It was really nice to see Spielberg and Williams together talking about their collaborations over the years. Really incredible stuff. I feel like they did a good job focusing on the movies that they did and touching on aspects of his life I didn't know. Like his history in jazz or his more freeform works. I agree with Spielberg that he is an absolute amazing composer and his works will go right up there with the classic greats. People will be listening to his music for generations to come. I feel like the movies will be forgotten before the music will. I mean how many people nowadays have ever seen the Barber of Seville? But everyone knows the music from it. Actually that's an interesting thought. I wonder what will happen to his music once it enters the public domain. Will we see a lot of cartoons (or video games or direct brain state approved media consumption) use his music like we see classical music being used today?
The variety of his works is also impressive. He really uses the full range of the orchestra. From the loud brass of Star Wars to the soft piano in Schindler's List. It's really amazing how he can instantly tap into your emotions and tap directly into your heart strings. Even without watching the movie. When I was growing up my dad loved musical scores. He loves classical music so scores just fell into that as well. He loved collecting the Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops CD's (which were brand new at the time) and we would listen to them over and over again in the car and at home. But we didn't really go to the movies much. So I was introduced to John William's music way before Spielberg's movies. And even without the context of the movie you can really feel the emotions he's trying to convey. It really is incredible and I don't think there's any composer like John Williams.
