Stupidest sequences in a movie?

There have been some gems lately. A lot having to do with Marvel movies, but mine is a DC movie, The Flash. That baby saving scene is one of the stupidest sequences in a movie I have seen in a long long time.

Re: Stupidest sequences in a movie?

The sequence in The Dark Knight right after Batman jumps out of the window to save Rachel and they land on the car. Oh wait, it jumps to the next day, we never find out how or what happened with the Joker and his men holding the people hostage. Did Batman call him an Uber, did they disapparate or did they jump on the back of a giant eagle to fly away?

So I will go with the entire ferry boat sequence. Just fucking stupidity.

The Dinosaur Stampede scene in King Kong (2005) immediately comes to mind.

Nobody in cinema, indeed in all of art, has had a bigger impact on my life than Steven Spielberg. But sorry, it's this.

This used to be the right answer.

But this is now the right answer.

I just can't believe that this scene was made. Have there been more ridiculous scenes in movies? Maybe? In some Bflick movie? But it is just so wholly unbelievable that this scene could happen in a movie that costs hundreds of millions of dollars from an entire corporation of a studio that had a dozen writers. I was just in absolute disbelief that I was watching that happen before my eyes.

There are children literally dying of starvation and lack of access to clean drinking water in the world and somehow tens of millions of dollars were spent to produce this scene. What a world. What a world.

Re: Stupidest sequences in a movie?

I liked the hospital/baby-saving scene in The Flash. Thought it was great superhero fun.

the entire Canto Bight sequence is the obvious answer here. Utterly pointless and extremely dopey. And I'm not a Last Jedi hater. It's a good movie, just a huge mistake to tell that particularly story as part 2 of a poorly-or-non-planned-out trilogy.

Only because the CGI was horrendous, I hate the Neo/Mr. Smiths fight scene in Matrix Reloaded.

Not necessarily a sequence but the introduction of bulletproof suit jackets ruins any sort of tension or creativity in the gunfight scenes. To the viewer it looks like they’re just shooting blanks at each other.

I don’t blame anyone for not enjoying it but I loved that sequence.. It was definitely stupid af but sometimes superhero films should be. The CGI wasn’t the best but I don’t need photo realism in my babies being stuffed into microwaves as part of a way to save them from falling to their death.

Re: Stupidest sequences in a movie?

Any movie with a scene where a car explodes unnecessarily and unrealistically.

I was watching Matt Dillon's first movie, Over the Edge, on Tubi the other day. It was a 1970s juvenile delinquent flick... and anyway, the climax involves a lot of cars exploding. Kid has a gun, shoots a cop car, and BOOM! it blows up in a big fireball. Car crashes into a building... BOOM!... the entire building explodes in a big fireball.

Unless it's a Pinto, cars do not just explode from a light tap.

Re: Stupidest sequences in a movie?

I laughed my ass off with the CGI babies. It was supposed to be incredibly silly, and homage to Superman getting a cat out of a tree sort of thing. I also get why some hated it, but I consider it a silly scene in a silly movie, nothing more.

Denzel Washington as a quadriplegic beating the crap out of the villain in The Bone Collector

Deputy gets killed because he is sitting with his back facing Javier Bardem, (who is handcuffed the wrong way with his arms in front of him), in No Country for Old Men.

Wow, all of y'all defending the Flash baby scene are making me really question your taste in movies.
IMO it's totally undefendable. The CGI was SO bad, the whole premise was ridiculous, it was stupid, and worst of all it wasn't entertaining at all.

The scene isn't stupid, the character is stupid and I'm pretty sure that something like that happened in the history of humanity. People die all the time, while doing stupid things.

The whole movie of The Bone Collector comes to mind. BUT another scene was when he kept yelling at Jolie to cut the hands off the victim.

I was gonna say, we could have a thread dedicated to stupidest sequence just in a Roger Moore Bond film and probably go several pages

How about Phoebe Cates suddenly getting on the therapist's couch to tell the horrible story about her father's death in Gremlins? Man, that came out of nowhere, didn't it?

No, it was stupid. Plus as the deputy was being strangled, he made absolutely no attempt at elbowing or punching (or anything with his arms/hands) Anton despite having numerous opportunities to do so. All he did was flail his arms. He was basically a 90 year old grandma.
