October 2024 Horror Comic Reading
Way late to make this post this year, but might as well.
Going to try to read 100 horror comics this month again, but I’m only at like 6 so far. 9 a day the rest of the month, easy peasey.
Reading Regression today.
Anyone else focus on horror books this month?

Not really because of Halloween, but I've been reading through my hardcover Vampirella archives this month. Those 70's Vampi B&W comics are pretty cool .

My quest to read 100 horror comics each October got off to a slow start, but I still hope to finish. Read Regression the other day, a 15 issue story by Cullen Bunn. He’s written what, 600 issues of horror books in the last few years?
Well-written characters and solid art from Danny Luckert. Story a bit convulted, with multiple past lives all connected, but it ends well, and there is some genuinely creepy art. I had read some of it digitally, but glad I picked up the oversized hardcover collecting it all.

My reading took a backseat to shopping today. Local shop had a dollar box sale, with about 100 long boxes. Fill a long box for $100, short for $60. Took advantage and spent over 8 hours there, going thru every box, and then checking my lists to try to avoid dupes. Shouldn’t have, but filled a long box. Found some cool stuff, will post in the appropriate thread once I sneak it out of the car someday my wife isn’t home.

Man, that's dedication! I don't think I could spend 8 hours rifling through long boxes. Same with flipping through LPs at a record store, after an hour or so, I'm done.

I didn’t plan to go thru all ~100, but I was waiting for a couple friends the first few hours, and was able to go thru maybe 2/3 of them. Eric had maybe 45 books before he had to leave, and my OCD kicked in. Told him why pay 45 bucks for his ‘small’ stack when we could over triple it for $15 more. So we split the cost of a short box and I filled it after he left. Took going thru every last box to find enough, but I think it was worth it. My back was sore as crap, but now I don’t have to look at their bins for quite awhile!
Oh, and they really wanted to get rid of book, so they kept telling customers to ‘be creative’ in filling boxes. So I was able to put a layer of books flat on the bottom of both boxes, and into the sides, so got over 500 books into the long/short boxes. Not bad for $160.
