American Werewolf in London. Had a hard time getting into The Howling films.

Dig them both but if I had to choose which one to watch I would go with The Howling. Then watch American Werewolf In London next.

AAWIL has always been my most favorite 80s Horror film. So, naturally, it wins here.
Parts 1-3 work as it's own (Strange) trilogy.
Part 4 is a reboot and it's following sequels all link themselves to that one.....Even the extremely cornball 7th film.

Enjoy both but I will go with The Howling, which moves at all times like a horror movie. An American Werewolf in London occasionally wants to be more than just a horror movie, which in itself isn't a bad thing.

It's a trick question. There is no correct answer.

An American Werewolf In London by an East Proctor mile. Could never get into The Howling movies (save for Howling II - a favorite guilty pleasure of mine ...
). Third on the werewolf list would be Werewolf Shadow (Paul Naschy) from way back in 1971. A nice little Euro-Horror.

The Howling is not the entire series, you ninnies! (Especially those ninnies who prefer the execrable The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf over the Joe Dante original.)

Some day I guess I need to watch The Howling movies.
Does that suffice for my answer?

Oh OK. I give in; American Werewolf in London is just average because An American Werewolf in Paris kinda sucked.

I concede the point. (While pointing out that even the movie producers knew that the film literally had only two good attributes.)
No! The thread is only about the FIRST DAMN MOVIE!

I hated the Werewolf at the end of the Howling so that automatically disqualifies it.
It is an Ok movie overall but AAWIL is just a superior movie in every way.

I'm pretty sure the only werewolf movie I've ever seen is Teen Wolf (and maybe the Jack Nicholson one?).

No contest, An American Werewolf in London by far. Hell, it's my favorite werewolf movie released ever.

Even though it's getting demolished in the poll, Here's a reminder why I still got a lot of love for The Howling

It also has one of my most favorite Blooper/Gag Reels:

The Howling. It's a straight up horror film. American Werewolf is more comedy, tongue in cheek.
Howling is also an smaller independent film released by Avco-Embassy (which was AIP) and fits right in with 70s drive-in horror like Hills Have Eyes, Phantasm, Piranha, Carrie, etc. It makes a perfect double feature with The Fog, also Avco-Embassy, released a year earlier.
American Werewolf is great, but too slick, and too goofy to take seriously as horror.
But the number one reason Howling beats American Werewolf is Dick Miller as the owner of the store with the silver bullets that some guy ordered special made but never picked up.
Said store owner shot to death by a Terminator three years later "Hey, just what you see pal." Kidding

The Howling 2 or An American Werewolf in Paris. That’s the real question.

AAWIL is one of my favorite movies - horror, comedy or otherwise - so that naturally gets my vote. Thought the first Howling was good though - the sequels not so much.
