Never seen it but it’s playing here on Tuesday which is $6 all day. May give it a shot. Constant reruns of Spaceballs and Men in Tights kinda ruined Mel Brooks for me. Seems like a funny guy despite those films. He’s great in The Muppet Movie.

Blazing Saddles is miles ahead of Spaceballs and RH: Men in Tights. So yourself a favor and check it out.

I don't think a movie like this would be able to get made today.

Wasn't 100% sure until I checked with Imdb.com but Blazing Saddles (1974) and Young Frankenstein (1974) were both released the same year..... What a year for Mel Brooks!
I've seen Young Frankenstein several times, though not since Gene Wilder passed away. I can't remember the last time I watched Blazing Saddles. I may have a mini marathon and watch both back to back.

A lot better than I thought it'd be. May give Young Frankenstein a watch next.

For some reason, I am always a bit surprised when I come across someone on a site like this, or a work colleague who says they have not seen Blazing Saddles. It is easy to forget that just because I assume that everyone has seen this classic comedy, that is far from the case. I am glad you enjoyed the film Nesbit.
To me, Airplane is the classic comedy that I am less inclined to automatically assume that the person I am speaking with has seen before.
People keep saying this film could not get made today, but I am starting to wonder if that is really true. You have really off the wall films like Barbarian that got made and seen by a lot of folks, and then you have the ultra gore from the Terrifier films (just really nasty hardcore scenes of brutality agains women in those films), I think this film could get made but it would be controversial as all get out.

Jim : Look at my hand.
Bart : Steady as a rock.
Jim : Yeah, but I shoot with this one.
One of my favorite jokes of all time in a movie.

Only times I can think of it happening since were Spielberg in 1993 (Jurassic Park, Schindler's List) and maybe Soderbergh in 2000 (Erin Brokovich, Traffic).

Obviously, anything can "get made" today because someone could film it on their phone. The point is that Blazing Saddles was major studio production.

If he wanted to Quentin Tarantino could make a western comedy that used the N-word nonstop and I’m not sure anyone would bat an eye.
