It Ends With Us (2024, D: Baldoni) S: Lively, Baldoni, Slate
Saw this last night to a packed theater of women and it actually wasn't bad. There were hoots, gasps, sniffles. Everyone was into it. I thought the cast did well with a tough subject (domestic violence). I can definitely see them probably doing the sequel book (It Starts With Us) seeing as how well this did opening weekend.

Trying to determine if the squabble between Blake and the co-star/director Baldoni is real or manufactured.
And Ryan helped to kind of cross-promote the film...
Justin Baldoni Hires Crisis PR Veteran Amid Alleged ‘It Ends With Us’ Rift

Justin Baldoni has hired veteran PR crisis manager Melissa Nathan amid the release of It Ends With Us, the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 hit book, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The news comes days after sleuths flooded TikTok with speculation about an alleged rift between Baldoni and his cast and crew, including co-star and producer Blake Lively, as well as Hoover. Chatter spiked when fans noticed Baldoni’s absence from joint press events and the lack of group photos of Lively and Baldoni together at the New York premiere Aug. 6. Some also pointed out that neither Lively or Hoover, nor the rest of the cast, follow Baldoni on Instagram (though he follows them).

The character names in this are vomit inducing. Lily Bloom... who runs a floral shop. Atlas Corrigan and Ryle Kincaid....
The behind the scenes drama is all that is making the news...

They do address the names in the film. Of course, YMMV on whether that is suitable enough. The groaner for me was the title drop.
I truly think the media kerfluffle is just some minor creative differences and differing schedules being blown out of proportion.
I saw this last night and I was the only guy in the theater. A tad long and takes a bit to get rolling if you know what the premise is, but surprisingly enjoyable for the subject matter. Jenny Slate is great at breaking some tension. And it was one of her scenes I actually teared up at. Baldoni was also "great", to the point where I was like, "This guy is such a fucking piece of shit" from scene one.
Also a great lesson for all: Communicate with your partners! There's multiple instances of major trauma not being discussed until after people are married. Like... WHAT?!

Thanks for starting the thread so I didn't have to. But I thought someone should considering the box-office impact it's had.
I saw it on Saturday as a way to beat the heat, even though I rarely go out to the movies anymore (Mean Girls, Boy and the Heron, Civil War, The Creator will give you an idea of how often I go). The wife thought I'd prefer Deadpool and Wolverine, but I didn't really like the previous Deadpool movies so the rom-dram seemed fine to me. Didn't know anything other than the genre, Blake Lively, and that it was based on some book. And as it turned out, the people ahead of us in line were told that D/W was sold out. Our theater had maybe 30 people, including some M-F couples. There was a quartet behind us that appeared to be some kind of book group, and I thought they'd talk throughout the movie, but they didn't.
I thought it was good. Tough to watch at times, of course, but didn't feel like a chore to me even at over two hours, and I liked how the story unfolded. I was satisfied with the ending too. I'd be in if they film the sequel.

I haven't seen it and didn't even realize it was out, but when I saw Rifftrax Live last Thursday, the theater was packed and I didn't know why (it was, of course, the preview night for this). It may have been the most crowded that I've ever seen the ladies room at the theater when I used after my show let out, lol. A showing of this must have let out around the same time.
Anyway, my daughters aren't interested in it and my wife never goes the the movies, so I don't really have a reason to catch it. My youngest used to read Collen Hoover books, but has sworn off of them and sold all of her books. My oldest refuses to see it and claims that the books glorify domestic violence. I have no opinion on the matter, as I haven't read the books and I wouldn't normally seek out a film like this unless someone else wanted to go.

I haven't read the books either, but I didn't get the feeling that the movie glorified domestic violence. It happened, and it forced the main character to make a decision.

Seems like the riff was over the direction of the film with Lively doing her own cut with the author's blessing? I don't know how true it is but certainly you don't get any idea that this is about domestic violence from the publicity I've seen.

Fun fact : This is the first time that husband and wife have occupied the top two movies at the Box Office since Demi Moore & Bruce Willis with Ghost and Die Hard 2 in 1990.

Congrats, Blake. You have become as annoying as your husband.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Sure, its melodramatic, but I got into it. I also enjoyed the relaxed pacing of the movie, that they didn't feel the need to rush into the plot and who the characters are, but instead let scenes linger, staying in the moment for several minutes instead of accomplishing its purpose and moving along to the next part of the story.

DirecTV gave me a credit for an on demand rental up to $20. I missed this in the theater, so I gave it a watch last night.
I thought it was entertaining. Good performances by Lively, Baldoni and the guy from 1923. Definitely not for most of you guys here. Very romantic and probably vomit inducing for some of you tough guys
It's basically a big screen Lifetime movie.
But, it was well directed and acted and I'm sure there are some moments that resonate with women in volatile relationships. Some of the scenes of domestic violence are a little difficult to watch.
