Bummer. Glad I got to see them (for my first and only time) during their Deuces Are Wild Vegas residency at the Park Theater a few years ago.

I saw them once, way back on the "Pump" tour. Great show and great band. 50 years is a hell of a run.

Saw them either on the Permanent Vacation or Pump tour. Great show. But they are one of those bands that, for me, just got over played over the decades. I almost always change the channel/station when they come on now. Except for the song in Dazed and Confused.

Aerosmith was my first concert in 1983 where they were supporting Rock in a Hard Place (exit Joe Perry, enter Jim Crespo). They were third on the bill after Bryan Adams and Sammy Hagar, but before Journey. I was 12, went with Mom. She read her book, I rocked out. I thought they were freakin' magical.
Then we had to leave early three songs into Journey because we were meeting the family for Chinese food dinner. Listen, Jews, Sunday night, etc.
Didn't see them again until 2006, first concert I went to with my then-girlfriend, now-wife. I think they were a little better that time. They played a TON of older, deeper tracks. I think the only post 70s songs they played were Cryin' and that Armageddon thing. Oh, and Livin in the Fridge.
Sad to see them retire, but glad to have seen them when I did. Little they recorded after Night in the Ruts really interested me, but I still always loved Aerosmith.

Last time I saw them was on the "Pump" tour with Black Crowes opening.
Really strong show from both acts... made me a Black Crowes fan, too.
Unfortunately, I also think that "Pump" was their last real album; everything after that just felt like a bunch of AOR crap like "Amazin'-Crazy-Cryin'" and Diane Warren pablum.

Pump is definitely their last great album but I have a soft spot for Nine Lives. It’s an improvement over Get a Grip at least.
Seen them 7 or 8 times (benefits of growing up outside Boston) including 2 new year’s eve shows. Too bad last tour isn’t happening. Was planning to see them at least once on it.

In retrospect, Permanent Vacation -- Desmond Child and Bruce Fairbarn notwithstanding -- had some really good tunes on there. St. John, Hangman's Jury, the title track, Girl Keeps Coming Apart, even their cover of I'm Down, all of them definitely worthwhile.
After that though...

I saw them once, on the Nine Lives tour I believe. I enjoyed it, but I didn't feel like I needed to see them again after that.

Desmond Child... the guy who retrofitted 70s hard rock groups (KISS, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith) for the Bon Jovi crowd...
I've often wondered what would have happened if Child and Fairbairn had gotten a hold of Deep Purple in the mid-80s "Perfect Strangers"/"House of Blue Light" era.
Or if someone was able to talk Plant, Page, and Jones into reforming Led Zeppelin...
(Josh runs away and hides...)

Dream On is an absolute top 10 classic rock song.
Funny how his voice got higher as he got older. usually it's the other way around.

That's a sad way to end as a band. I knew them best through their 90s era.

Never saw them live. I like some of their later albums and songs but those first four albums are classics that will stand the test of time.

First saw them in 1974 when I was 16. They were opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Never heard of either band. The second album of each had just been released. A friend I went to show with bought Get Your Wings 8-Track and we'd listen to it driving around. I went and bought both LPs and would listen to them over and over in my bedroom with headphones on.
By 1976 was living in KC and saw them again. In big arena this time. Rocks was newest album. Angel opened for them. Last time I saw them. I have a bootleg of the 1978 California Jam show. Sounds like shit. Wish they would release it.
I think Draw The Line and Night in the Ruts are still pretty good. Better than anything they did after. Rock and A Hard Place has a couple half way decent songs. Done With Mirrors sucks, With the exception of "Rag Doll", didn't like any of the later stuff.

Are they that rock group that Run DMC made popular?

Re: Aerosmith Announces Retirement from Touring
Back in the day, I remember seeing numerous Aerosmith records at local record stores. Though I had no idea what they sounded like, and I don't remember hearing them being played on the radio much at the time (circa early to mid 1980s). For that matter, I don't remember seeing many articles about them in rock magazines at the time (ie. Circus, Hit Parader, etc ....).
In effect, I wasn't willing to do any blind buys on their records.
It was only after seeing the Run DMC "Walk This Way" video, that I finally heard what Aerosmith sounded like. I picked up the 1980 "greatest hits" record, and shortly later Toys In The Attic.

Also agree that Pump was their last real album for the same reasons. I know it was the last one I bought and I really stopped caring about them after that. Still, a legendary band, and sad to see them retire.

I never saw them live (but I tend to avoid live shows as most bands just aren't that good live). The first Aerosmith album I purchased was Rocks and it's still the one I listen to most and always all the way through. It's the only album they released I do that with regularly. For others it's usually one of the Greatest Hits collections (with the early beating the later by a long shot).
They had a very good run and will be missed...

I had tickets to see them in Raleigh next year. I was hoping that my daughter would get to experience seeing them live. Myself, I have seen them twice. Once in Charlotte in the 90s(Get a Grip tour) and then received free tickets for the co-headlining tour with Kiss(2000s?).

Re: Aerosmith Announces Retirement from Touring
Toys in the Attic was my first CD, and a great album. I never did get to see them live. I had a hard time justifying the cost when they came through my area, as I had moved into seeing a lot of metal bands that were more interesting to me at the time. When I heard about the final tour, I debated going, but never got tickets.
I hesitate calling them a great band, as they had a lot of stuff that just didn't gel with me. I guess even that stuff was fairly well made, I just felt it was incredibly boring. 50 years, good for them.
