Rebel Moon - The Director's Cut (D: Snyder) - Chapter 1 & 2 - Netflix

The wait is nearly over. Rebel Moon, which burst onto Netflix with Part One in December 2023 and Part Two in April 2024, will return for new extended R-rated Director’s Cuts in August 2024. Netflix confirmed that both movies will be touching down globally on August 2nd, 2024.

In case you missed it, Rebel Moon is Zack Snyder’s big new fantasy sci-fi franchise. The two films currently on Netflix are PG-13 cuts, and in March 2023, it was revealed that there would be an extended R-rated cut akin to the one Snyder did for Justice League in 2021.

Snyder has been hyping these extended R-rated cuts for quite some time, and we’ve compiled a full list of what he and other people connected to the movies have stated here.

But today, Netflix and Zack Snyder confirmed that both movies will be available simultaneously on Netflix on Friday, August 2nd, 2024. The runtime of both is expected to be six hours in total.

Netflix has provided a new official synopsis for the upcoming movies here:

“Delve further into the mythology and madness of Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi saga in the viciously sexier, bloodier world of Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.”
They even have new titles???

It's easy when it's Netflix. It's already there. Just press play.

As they say in Vegas…when you have a bad hand that cannot win, just throw more money in the pot.

That trailer does look good, but both movies were so bad that I’m reluctant to spend any more time on them lol. I’ll check the reviews.

I did like the final battle of #2.

Re: Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver (2024, D: Zack Snyder) - Netflix

I knew there was something weird going on with that giant face in the engine room and expected it to be expanded in the director's cut. But I was expecting a far more subtle change. I forgot this is Snyder.

Oh and I guess now we know that wasn't coal being shoveled in there.

And, although the trailer looks cool, I'm not a fan of the very cartoony CG blood.

So . . . I'm not going to say this will be better, but do we totally have another Justice League situation on our hands here? Is this essentially a VERY different story than the shitty Joss Whedon versions of Rebel Moon?

I'm also hoping for re-released or updated merch! I missed out the first time around. Looking forward to completing my set of Rebel Moon Lugnuts for my Prius!

Yeah, as much as I wanna see these director's cuts, I still don't see why they aren't the only versions of these movies. I'd get it if the PG-13 versions had a limited theatrical release, but they didn't. Given the artificial #ReleaseTheSnyderCut event Netflix seems to want these to become, I'm surprised they didn't credit Joss Whedon for the PG-13 versions. I'm sure he could use the money these days.

This whole "the real versions are coming" nonsense is just stupid for a streaming service. It's not a beloved IP. No one was clamoring for more Rebel Moon. I've certainly never seen or heard anyone talk about it outside of this forum. And assuming the audience would be all in on this thing (complete with a DOA merch line) just smacks of Snyder's inflated sense of his own work.

It's like if Lucas put out Star Wars and then 6 months later put out the Special Edition. A) He would have had no idea that Star Wars was going to be a hit and B) if it was ready to go that soon, just put the Special Edition out first.

At least the Justice League "Snyder Cut" had some studio interference (including a different director) behind it.

But this was Netflix dictating terms. "You want your DC versions, then do our PG-13 versions first." I'm still not sure why ZS gets the flack for it. Is it because he should have told Netflix to fuck off something? I mean, Netflix did pay for it, so that would not have gone over well. If making the PG-13 versions knowing you would get your DC's out there eventually was part of the deal then it would behoove ZS to say yes. And he did.

I think the whole thing is very silly.

Sure, Snyder can agree to that arrangement. But there is also something to be said for him maybe realizing these didn't need to be 3 hour long extravaganzas. Plenty of directors turn in good PG-13 movies. Promoting an immediate "Director's Cut" (and Netflix is complicit in this too) before the original is even out says that everyone involved was VERY confident in a project that ultimately scored the lowest critical ratings of ANY Snyder movie to date.

If Netflix wanted shorter PG-13 versions and Snyder really wanted DC versions, then the dual-release strategy kinda makes sense. Maybe Snyder made the short versions intentionally terrible so the long ones would shine.

I had two friends post on FB about it. One said he had watched the first hour and found it super fun, and one said it was a waste of time.

That would make more sense than him thinking he nailed it

Well, there's two people who watched it then.

So I'm guessing part one is the longer of the two because it'll finally present the characters back stories, rather than dump it all during a table read in part two?

I haven't even watched the original Netflix cuts yet because what's the point?

Such a lame gimmick to create these cuts when nothing was stopping him from making them the ultimate version in the 1st place.

I will say this . . . Justice League was an interesting exercise in how a film can be changed with a different view on the same material. Given the trailers, this will be interesting, too.

The problem is that the PG-13 cuts were so god awful that nobody (general public) is interested in this.

That's the million dollar -- err -- subscriber question. It seems this was all Netflix' idea. Snyder seems to have agreed to the PG-13 cuts in order to finance the R-rated versions. I get Snyder agreeing, but I don't get why Netflix thought this'd be a good idea.
