‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Sequel in the Works at Disney with Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna in Talks to Return

Gird your loins. Miranda Priestly is set to deliver more withering glances in a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Disney is developing a sequel to the hit 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna in talks to return to write the next chapter.

Puck was first to report the developing project, produced by Oscar winner Wendy Finerman. Disney had no comment.

It will never happen.

The article above (which I forgot to link) was from Variety. I have no reason to doubt that Disney wants to move forward with it. And while the Variety article doesn't mention cast, I could certainly see both Streep and Blunt being interested in coming back.
They did a little mini-reunion at the SAG awards in February, even though the bit fell a little flat.

The Devil Wears Nada!

It will cost $40-50 million just to get those three stars to sign on, and it is becoming increasingly clear that stars are not drawing audiences into theaters, so the profitability of a sequel would be questionable.

But more than that, none of those three need a paycheck badly enough to make a bad movie that diminishes the reputation of what is a beloved item in their careers.

Everyone is looking to do something with any existing IP in their catalog, and throwing some money at writer to develop a story does not cost very much.

I think between the difficulty of writing a good sequel and the eventual cost of the production, this is will not happen.

Disney continues to confound Count Dooku and is in talks to bring everyone back.

Apparently there's already a story line draft. And I agree with this article, it is a decent idea. But it certainly changes Miranda Priestly's power control.

According to " a source CLOSE TO the production" . . . a production that does not even have a first draft of a screenplay.

Disney and none of the actors in question have any comment on this rumor.

I will stand by my prediction until the cameras start rolling. Until then, enjoy chewing over morsels of gossip and click-bait.

Would it bo straight to Disney + like Enchanted too?

I thought maybe the original was a Sony or Universal movie?

I saw the original but I did not like it and back then never knew it would become a classic.

Filming starts next month.

Now I'm curious how much it cost just for the cast.

I was surprised to have seen the original a few times and enjoyed it each time. I will certainly watch this on Netflix or whatever platform it eventually lands in but I doubt I would see it in theaters.

I'd let George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Kevin Costner tell Tom about it.

This will be a sequel nobody asked for with an inflated budget like Joker 2, and it will probably be received just as well by audiences and do similar numbers.

They can make it an edgy movie about Miranda on drugs seeking revenge on those that brought down her empire while still having delusions of grandeur. And then she becomes the actual devil.

There have been pictures everywhere online this past week showing both Streep and Hathaway on the set, and they both look great. I haven't seen one photo of Blunt yet. I hope this doesn't suck.

Is this going to be based on the book sequel that was written?

They've been pretty tight lipped about the story and script. But since so many people hated the follow-up book, I'm guessing there are a lot of changes.
