Rolling Stone's 100 Best Movie of the 1970's
I don't agree with most best of lists, mainly because of the order. But how can you name 100 films from the 70's and leave out "The Last Picture Show"?

The order of the movies is about all you can argue. Making a list as big as 100 is pretty lazy. I ended up skipping straight to 20-1 and yeah, can’t say I agree with the rankings there.

Most of the Top 20 is pretty worthy. Never even heard of that Sheep movie though.

No Werner Herzog? Okay.

I've want to see Ganja & Hess but have never come across it anywhere.
The ones I've never heard of before but would most like to see are Hester Street, Wanda, and Fantastic Planet.

Where the hell is Fred Zinnemann's The Day Of The Jackal, Peter Weir's Picnic At Hanging Rock, Russ Meyer's Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, Andy Warhol's Blood For Dracula, and <checks notes> Denis Sanders' Invasion Of The Bee Girls?

Rolling Stone still trying to stay relevant??
I have some issues with it as well.

So?
Do you think my point was that a publication striving to be DEI in 2024 would exclude all American movies with all-white casts, or that it might explain why a particular movie would be excluded to make room for something else that's a little more "woke" in its scope?

Kudos to Rolling Stone for making it a list instead of clickbait. Mostly good choices, some omissions, fun to read through.

Seen all but Small Change (I see it's on Prime. I'll give it a look today) and Dusty and Sweets McGee. Can't complain much for a list that has Ganja & Hess, The Devils, and Phantom of the Paradise, but I would've swiped a couple others with:
Chinese Roulette over "Bitter Tears"
3 Women over "Friends/Eddie Coyle"
Carrie over "Halloween"
Straight Time over "Night Moves"
But yeah, no Herzog and not one Japanese or Australian film? Those countries killed it in the 70s.

Rolling Stone hates fun. They have no love for Superman or The Muppet Movie.

Without even looking I'm quite sure they left off THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN and anything with Toshiro Mifune.
Update: Okay, PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID, A TOUCH OF ZEN, THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE, BARRY LYNDON, THE PARALLAX VIEW, ENTER THE DRAGON and MEAN STREETS are all there, so they made some effort. But overall it's a pretty safe, mainstream list.

I've seen 20 of these movies, although I started Barry Lyndon last night and fell asleep (I was just tired from doing a double with my second job)

To be fair, 100 movies is too paltry for the 70s.

I don't like lists where documentaries and feature films are mixed. Of those 100 movies I've watched 32 and have some of the others on a waiting list.
