Hey EM,

There is a long chain of stories, poetry, lyrics, and musical roots that have crossed cultures and generations inspiring the whole world for hundreds of years and in all those lines of thought, music, and rhythm there are special artists who take it all in and create new original ideas from their own feelings and experiences. You are one of those timeless originators building something new on a long musical legacy of original artists.

For me it’s Les Paul, T-Bone Walker, Bill Doggett, Johnny Guitar Watson, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Willy Dixon, Leiber & Stoller, Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane & Miles Davis. I have always tried to credit, honor, and respect the major influencers in my life and to always credit, honor royalties and share knowledge of their work through my own work. I didn’t know it would be this way when I was a kid trying to make a living playing music and making records, I only knew I had to respect the art that came before me and fight for it too among all the crooks, thieves, and imposters.

There aren’t many artists who take the time or make the effort to stand up for themselves and credit and respect their influencers at the same time. Marshall Mathers you are an exception and on my short list of people who respect the art. To be included in your process feels good while I’m still singing and playing the music I love. I’m Honored.

Thank you,

Steve Miller

Rap is a young man's game and Eminem's time has passed. He once was incredibly talented but his skills have diminished a great deal over the past 16 years. The video and song are a nostalgic rehash of better work.

Here's a better track from his glory days with Method Man and Royce.

I mean isn’t the whole intent of the song to be nostalgic and calling back to his past? I listen to rap sparingly and like Eminem but I’m not a huge fan. Thought the song was pretty good though.

I don’t care for most rap but have always enjoyed Eminem. I thought this was a bit derivative of older stuff but he has good energy and carries it with that weird thing he has that in normal people is called charisma.

I don’t know how it’s going to be received by critics and the public, but I think it’s a really strong album and pretty funny in parts. I like the back and forth between Shady and Marshall. I need a few more listens but I really enjoyed it the first time through at least.

I get the concept. It sounds good in theory. The execution is horrible.

I love it. It started with Houdini, which I love, then the rest. More awesomeness. I missed him.

So much offensive riffs on seemingly everyone. I don’t exactly love that, but there is no denying he’s an amazing lyricist and this album is no exception. Really like it a lot. Probably 2nd for me behind MM2.

So many.

Word is out that if you listen to to album in reverse track order, Shady kills Eminem.

Other than first single Houdini, I totally agree with you. I have listened to the whole album about 10 times.

I love it. Best Eminem in many many years.

Re: Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)

This album is simply divine. I can’t get enough of Antichrist, Tobey, all of them, Houdini. Great album, but what does title mean? Is Eminem letting go of his persona, Slim Shady, or going to be just Eminem, Marshall Mathers?
